Walter

Walter was born in one of the Wind Clans with which Ellimere had built close ties. Clan Millie was always a close ally and friend, and many dragons from Clan Ksayla went to live in Clan Millie, and vice versa. Clan Millie's founders, Millie and Ralph decided that they needed to send an official ambassador, of sorts. Though Millie and Ralph were not dedicated mates, they had mated before, producing the Pirate Queen Gingersnap. And they decided that they would lay a nest together again to bring forth a more suitable representation of their lair.

Thus Walter was born and came to our lair. He arrived as an enthusiastic hatchling, eager to please his parents, the new Clan, and his new found sister. As he grew up, his enthusiasm never wavered, even in the face of continued rejection from his sister. Gingersnap didn't think that Walter had the skills required to be on her pirate crew. Nevertheless, Walter would greet her when she returned from trips by tackling her, snuffling around her to be sure it was her, and giving her a sloppy kiss. He would bound around behind her for hours asking for all the details of her adventures and if he could join her next time. He even started wearing an astonishing sweater as a way to show his sister how much of a pirate he REALLY was. This did not impress or amuse Gingersnap.

When Walter wasn't bothering his sister or visiting his parents, he was often found in his sleeping quarters chewing on various sticks and bones. Occasionally one could catch him chasing his fluffy tail (for his tail never seemed to lose it's winter coat, even in the heat of the Ashfall Wastes). He was often seen carrying a very ragged, very damaged, obviously chewed on Windsinger Puppet around with him, and would chew on it when no one was watching. Lastly, in his sleeping quarters, he kept a scrap of linen that was covered in the scent of his birth lair. Being a Tundra, smell was very important to him, and he used this scrap as a reminder of home.

More recently he went a little crazy after trying so hard to bond with his sister. He joined and quickly took over the second band of pirates in the clan. He became the crazed captain. But in the end they are just the Scooby-Doo villains of piracy.

Walter grew greedy and reckless, and one day during Night of the Nocturne he opened a chest and was cursed. He would wear his greed on his body, a web of golden markings. After this, his crew tired of his unhinged, unstable behavior and mutinied, leaving him the sole member of the Pirates of the Black Banner in Clan Ksayla. After adventuring on his own, Walter came upon a beautiful gilded chest, with an allure he couldn't explain. Upon opening it, a brilliant golden light flashed and blinded him for a solid minute. When he could see again, he realized what he had been doing. The chest was spelled, and cured him of his sea madness. However, it transformed his smirched curse to beautiful runes instead.

Feeling ashamed and embarrassed by his behavior, he decided to make amends by spending time with the younger dragons, telling them of his follies. He hoped that by spreading his story, others could avoid making the same mistakes.
