Nile is from a small clan of star imitating nocturnes. Instead of imitating sounds, these greyscale dragons had star maps that danced on their wings. Taking advantage of novice navigators, the larger nocturnes would spread their wings over part of the sky, and as a whole, the clan could seemingly 'reposition' the stars. Nile's lighter coloration prevented her from blending in with the night sky, so she just played her own star. Eventually legends spread of this bothersome flock of Nocturnes, so buccaneers and adventurers were sent out to disperse them from the skies. The family of pranksters, who had lead many-a-pirate into labyrinths of wind mazes, were rounded up and sold at underground slave markets.

Nile had been in circulation of the underground slave system for awhile. Odd stumbled upon her at a small auction in the Cloudsong. Upon Cainwen's advice, he emptied his pirate hoard to bring the caged star into his own crew, where she now lives her life, free. Nile is a joyful spirit, and takes delight in the smallest thing of life. Because she once had to imitate the sky, she knows it well, and serves as the navigator for the crew. At times, she is permitted to deceive other ships, usually those of criminals, to deliver them into the hands of authority. Hey, who said pirates had to play fair?
