Ghosts were created as another show of power by the Plaguebringer. Legend has it that the Plaguebringer quite literally breathed this subspecies into life. Ghosts function as the middleman between the Mother of Disease and her many creations. Although the process is still a mystery, it has been revealed that they are the beings sent to the graves of Liches to bring them back. They also ferry Wraiths back and forth between the Plaguebringer’s plane and the rest of dragonkind. They are, essentially, her messengers.

While Liches, Wraiths, and other subspecies created by the Plaguebringer were given physical forms, Ghosts are more ethereal beings, often only spotted as spiraling smoke. For this reason, most are not aware of these messengers until they are able to manifest into a more solid form. Their ability to manifest depends on the Plaguebringer, as they share a somewhat empathic relationship with her. When her emotions are at their strongest, that’s when Ghosts are able to draw from her power and use it as their own. No one is sure what their level of tangibility depends on, though arguments have been made for both the the age of a Ghost, and the severity of the Plaguebringer’s emotion.
