Marilla, meaning "shining sea", is the granddaughter of Mazu and Maelstrom on her mother's side. Macabre is her great uncle, making Michonne her great aunt.

Marilla was raised by her parents in the Spiral Keep where she developed a deep-rooted love for the sea and its inhabitants, weaving crowns out of kelp and carefully crafting necklaces out of sea shells she picked herself. Though she can't fly, she can swim faster than she can run and can hold her breath longer than any other dragon in the clan, making her a force to be reckoned with in the water.

Though Marilla's mother had familial ties in the Wood, she followed her mate to the Sea of a Thousand Currents when they decided to have children together. Once her children reached adulthood, however, Marilla's mother made the decision to re-dedicate herself to the Shadowbinder after being away from Her for so long. Not wanting to be apart from his mate, Marilla's father followed, leaving Marilla with a tough choice to make.

In the end, Marilla decided she was ready for a new adventure. She wrote to her extended family in the Wood to inform them she’d be coming to visit and was welcomed with open arms into Dorsia.
