Biography
Judai
Messenger | Wildclaw | Male
Messenger | Wildclaw | Male

Judai was a messenger, in charge of ferrying letters across all reaches of the continent in every flight. But the most important delivery he’d ever made hadn’t been a letter. He didn’t know it at the time, but when he’d set out that fateful day in the heat of August, he would be going out to save a life. The delivery seemed innocuous enough, if a little strange. A little creature was what he carried in the heavy wooden crate, and he was only glad that he was strong enough to fly with it. The dragon that hired him told him to be careful not to drop it, lest the creature escape. He didn’t know what was inside – he had been told it wasn’t that important to know what it was, just to know that it was an important creature and needed to be handled with care. He would be paid upon its safe delivery to the Icefields in the south, which was quite the distance from the Sunbeam Ruins where he set out from that particular day, but the wind dragon knew that, come storm or sunny weather, he would carry the post through. The first day of travel was uneventful. He spent a while chatting with the creature inside the box – for it could talk, though it did no more to reveal its identity than the dragon who hired him. It seemed peaceable enough, and content to be in the box. Perhaps even looking forward to meeting the dragons in its new home, and Judai wondered if the little thing would even really try to escape if he opened it up and took a peek. Just to satisfy his curiosity. But, of course, he resisted, because he didn’t want to risk disappointing his employer, and not get the hefty sun of treasure promised to him when he reached the Icefields. But this outlook changed when he began to swim over the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He wasn’t flying up so high that the desperate cries for help failed to reach his ears. Stalling in his flight, he scoured the water below, looking for the source of the noise and seeing, to his shock, a bright pink dragon clawing desperately for the surface – drowning. What was he to do? If he did nothing, the other dragon would surely slip under the waves. And it was apparent that no one else was in the area to help, otherwise they would have already done so. But if he were to go help the other dragon, it would mean having to drop his cargo… Imagine his surprise when the little voice inside of the box offered to help. “Let me out!” it said. “I can save him!” Surprising even himself by doing so, Judai opened the box. And inside he saw, as it leaped out into the waters below, a small Water Sprite. She dove into the waves, and to his wonder, the water around the drowning dragon grew still, and suddenly he seemed more buoyant than possible. Judai could scarcely believe his eyes as the spite worked her magic to save the other dragon. Knowing his assistance was still needed, Judai flew to the surface of the water, pulling the other dragon out and to a small shore where he could dry his wings enough to fly again. They sat there together for some hours, profuse thank yous and don’t worry about its being exchanged between them until it was time to go their separate ways. But to Judai’s surprise, the young spiral he had rescued insisted on repaying him somehow. With eyes glittering with deep wisdom, the shadow dragon promised a grand repayment when their paths crossed again – and he was sure they would, in the land of Fire. After giving his name as Yuma, the pink striped dragon took to the skies again, and Judai wondered at what he meant by this repayment. …which reminded him… The Water Sprite! Oh, where had it gotten to? He hadn’t thought about it for some hours. Looking desperately into the water, he searched, and searched… but it was gone. He’d failed his first delivery, ever. His spotless track record was gone… …but it hadn’t been for nothing. He looked towards the horizon, seeing the glowing of the Fire lands despite the falling sun in the sky. There was something waiting for him there. Taking wing once more, he set off to find the stranger he pulled from the water, wondering what future was in store for him.
The remainder of the tale is in Yuma’s bio…
"I have no idea what I’m doing, and that’s kind of how I love it."
