Known for his quiet power and his ability to silence his whole clan with the flick of his tail, Ylaren was a mysterious dragon. He had the power of a king and the silence of Titus Andronicus. As a young dragon he had fought for his clan in a brutal war, a war in which he was captured and taken prisoner. He was transferred from prison camp to prison camp until he ended up in an earth clan. This clan was focused on training and exalting, if you were born into this clan that became your destiny, forced to become a warrior, forced to fight, forced to kill. Here prisoners of war weren't executed, they were 'turned'. They were made to fight against their own flight and murder their own people. Ylaren planned his escape and became determined to rescue as many hatchlings as he could persuade to come with him. But none of the hatchlings he spoke to understood the many languages he spoke. He discovered words to be useless and for years after his escape he kept a vow of silence. Ylaren spent many years travelling from country to country, studying different customs and languages. He examined different flights and the politics of different clans before returning to his home and breaking the news to his parents. On his travels he had met a shadow dragon named Amethyst who had expressed her wish to start a new clan under the water flight due to their flexibility, and Amethyst had asked for Ylaren's help, Ylaren was leaving the family and home he had struggled so hard to return to in order to join Amethyst's quest. Whilst travelling he had also met a Skydancer called Thunder and intrigued by her native tongue he learnt to speak it, falling in love with the way the sounds fell from his mouth, he rediscovered his love of language and he was no longer silent. He changed his vow of silence to a a vow to teach all hatchlings born into his clan how to speak Thunder's language. You will now find Ylaren spending his days as one of the five members of the clan's council, advising the clan leader, and when off duty he is often found sunbathing with Thunder, playing with his children, chatting with Ziwei in a variety of languages or teaching hatchlings World Studies and giving language lessons to anyone who will attend. |
