Biography

⁂ Vasuki ⁂

He still remembers the first time he saw the red dragon. A splash of colour in the endless greyscale of their icy barracks, dried blood in the freshly fallen snow. He was as fearsome as any other Imperial, but he carried himself with a certain confidence that none of the other soldiers had. He was fire and blood and all things between and beyond. Ruthlessly efficient, but charmingly so. No dragon had ever looked so at ease surrounded by death, but the blood in the snow was one with his skin, his wings, his entire being. A blood soaked soul, burning bright in a wasteland of ice. And Vasuki was like a moth to the open flame.

They were sent to their first war together, and both came back with nothing but blood stained claws and scarred hides to show for it. He does not remember the war, only the moments between fights. Nestled against the red dragon, grooming the blood from his claws and drowning the memories in talks of family and the future and life after war. The warmth and comfort the he associated with the red dragon anchored him to reality. Were it not for those moments he may have lost himself to the war.

But of course, the war ended eventually. The losses were too great, and not worth the rewards. And so Vasuki was finally given the freedom of life, one that he hoped to share with the red dragon he had grown to depend on. But the red one was a dragon born for warfare. Where Vasuki fought only because he would otherwise die, the red dragon relished every second they spent at war. He was a menace on the battlefield, cutting apart the beastclans like they were butter. The blood matted into his mane and soaked into his claws didn't bother him in the slightest, and the blood that stained his soul? Well, he didn't need that in the first place. So without a war to kill for, he decided, well, he would kill for himself.

Perhaps the end of their love was inevitable. They grew together surrounded by blood, so it was only right to end it that way. The red dragon's bloodlust grew too much to ignore, and Vasuki was forced to accept the reality of the situation: he loved a monster. As darkness fell over the home they had built together, Vasuki let go of whatever love he had and left in peace.
But bloodstained love can never end peacefully. The red dragon was as merciless in his murder as he was attentive in his love. Each strike of his claws was in memory of a gentle caress, each breath of scalding flames a memento to his all-consuming desire. If he could not live with Vasuki, then he would die with him.

Everyone had heard the stories of the monstrosities birthed from mass imperial graves, the grotesque amalgamations of what once may have been dragons combined and consumed by never ending hunger. What a wonderful thing it would be to become one with that which he loved, and Vasuki was his prized obsession. So in the darkness of midnight, the red dragon curled himself around the broken and dying Vasuki, hushing the dying cries of despair and fear that gurgled in his lovers twisted neck, holding him tight even as he tried with his dying breaths to crawl away.

Why do you fight, my love? We become one tonight. I will never leave you, my darling, never. This I swear.

The morning rays of sunlight illuminated the scene the next morning. The sheer destruction was only half of the horrors that plagued that little lair Vasuki had once called home. In the center of it all, a purple figure shifted slightly under the cool warmth of the morning sun. A stifled moan, and the crack of broken bones shifting and melding together again as this new creature rose from the ground.
Ice cold eyes took in the scene around them, but even the cool blue of their iris could not hide the flames burning deep within. Vasuki tested his control, feeling the harsh tug of the red dragon against his every movement. And the pain in his belly, the primal desire to kill and slaughter and devour everything in his path, to bathe the world in blood and flames and screams of terror, why, it was almost irresistible. Was that from the monster he had joined with, or the monster he had become?
No matter, he would grow used to it. There was no weakness left in him now, and he would not be controlled again. If that meant he had to fight his own body for the rest of his life, so be it. He would not surrender to this, and he would never let the red dragon take control. The demon would not even get the mercy of a face to scream with. And if a head took form... well, Vasuki knew pain. And the red one was not the only dragon with teeth. A deafening howl echoed within Vasuki's head, but he did not listen. As this new body of fire and ice, purple and red, strength and sorrow continued to take form, he moved forwards. Away from this broken home and all memories of red and blood and the thrill of the kill. He would live on in peace, and just maybe that would be revenge enough.

But peace is rarely the easy choice. Death and destruction are his destiny, and Vasuki knew in his cold, conjoined heart that the blame was not entirely on his lover. He couldn't deny the thrill of the hunt, the satisfaction of the kill. Peace promised from spite is not one that can truly last, and Vasuki held far too much anger and hatred to ever be pure enough to hold that promise, to deny the very nature of his being.

Tell me stranger, what is peace?
Peace to the world is freedom from conflict
And I have kept myself far from the world
But I do not feel peace

I am a monster born of death
I carry death to all before me
The world trembles before my form
And the Gods hold no power over me

This... This is my peace
And I will deny myself no longer

You were a candle in the dark
A spark that burned in my heart
You were the red of fresh blood
Spilt in fresh snow
Fire in plains of ash

Something hungry and bright
A fire all-consuming
Dealing death with quick claws
And laughter
Lips stretched into wide smiles
Drawn tight against sharp teeth

And you were mine and I was yours
But you see:
I fought to live.
And you -
You lived to fight
And peace is no place
For a blood-soaked soul,
At home in slaughter.

At first I wanted not to see,
Not to know -
But the peace brought clarity
And truth
And I learned how it was
To love a monster

Then came the night of terror
And fear,
Blows in the night
Strikes without warning
Done with love,
Done with love

A dying breath
A ragged gasp
We died together on that
Blood filled night
And now we are another whole
Together forever,
Never to be apart
A monster with shambling limbs
And two minds
A cautionary tale

These violent desires
Have violent ends
There are two souls within me
I choose which one I'll feed
I choose peace
A final rebellion to who you used to be
And maybe
Maybe it will be enough
