Biography

Za'da Drakemaster
Ambassador

Bold and brash, Za'da was deemed lucky by many that she was blessed by two marks from her deities. They believed that these ensured she would be kept safe, even when her adventurous attitude led her straight down a path to danger. With a dappled coat and a white hind foot, it seemed to many that she was destined for greatness. It was the King himself who declared that she was bound for something more, as none like her had been born in several generations.

A touch of arrogance followed her, as she recognized the reverent looks. She knew that she was not just a standard hunter. She reveled in the respect shown for her. After all, few were born with the mark of the Queen and the Hunter together. Bearing the marks of both siblings, she is considered both a superior marksman and a natural-born leader. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen.

However, because of this, she was appointed as a diplomat. While her kind did not associate much with the outside world, pressures of the ever-growing dragon population would force them to reach out and connect. At first her missions were small, forming tenuous alliances with the other shadow centaurs. Then they began associating with Dunhoofs, Wintermanes, and Swiftfoots, pledging a mutual allegiance to those who could provide them with support. Still, it would be years before their clan would be brought to light.

It was a long time before Za'da earned her second name. Her first name was given to her early on, a word that meant luck would follow her. And, while she did hold the title of Twice-Blessed, the elders believed that she was still destined for something more. Thus, she had only her title. However, when she stumbled across an abandoned hatchling, the elders began to take notice. Perhaps, they thought, this was the will of their deities: that the centauress would bring peace with her new companion.

E'kho was a foundling, abandoned within the deep cave systems of the shadow flight when he was but a young drake. Too early for him to remember, he was discovered by a centauress belonging to a peculiar sort of Beastclan: a subspecies that hunted at night. Without sharp spines and well-developed wings, he was easily mistaken for some form of bat. The centaurs had no qualm with the night creatures that inhabited their caves, taking in the abandoned hatchling.

While it soon grew obvious that the creature was the young of a dragon, the centaurs were not quite as violently opposed to his presence as some of their kin. They rarely had dealings with the diurnal dragons. Many were wary at first, but it soon became apparent that he would not follow the footprints of his kind. He spend all of his formative years among their number.

Being raised as a form of pet, he does not quite possess the sapience of his forebearers. Instead, it ranges somewhere close to that of a growing child. His incredible mimicking skills mean that he can parrot back the words of the centaur clan, though his understanding of complex language is somewhat limited. More often, he follows the example of his caretakers and says little or nothing at all.

While originally more of a novelty, he soon proved his skill as a hunter. Like the owlcats and nighthawks that some centaurs kept, he became an asset, bringing in enormous amounts of prey every night. The centaurs thrived with him among their number. Once he had grown to a rather fearsome size, he became their protector as well. When the ambassador, his primary "master," was appointed to make alliances with a neighboring clan, he took the position of her silent guardian.
