Ageless Mysterious Lonely ╰━━━━━━━━╯ |
╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮
"She who will go down to the shady groves and summon the shadows there." ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ She was a spirit. An ageless entity. The physical manifestation of the Starwood Strand itself. But...despite all these affirmations, Andruil could not, would not shake the nagging feeling that she was once a mortal. Because that was the only logical, nay, the only possible explanation to why she experiences what she could only describe as...emotions. It was ridiculous. For the longest time, Andruil thought herself weak. She could not, would not ever forgive herself for being so mortal. Spirits do not feel. They transcend such petty mortal matters. Spirits simply am. She spent an eternity in turmoil, secluding herself into the Strand to hide from the mockery of others, the true entities. The real spirits. "Ah. But what would poor little Andruil know about such matters? She's not truly one of us." The truth is, Andruil was not created as most spirits are, spontaneously brought into existence by sheer will. She had made a deal with a dark entity to save a loved one: exchange her mortality for the loved one's life to be spared. At that time, she thought it was strange such an ethereal being would ever want to surrender immortality for a mortal life. Isn't that was all dragons try to escape? The inevitability of death? She didn't think twice. "Done." She cried out in a clear voice. What a foolish thing to wish for! Now, her lips are bound by a piece of enchanted cloth. Her jaws move no more. Her memories of her mortal life, along with all that made her a dragon, was taken. She was not Andruil. She was the very essence of the Starwood Strand. However, due to her unnatural origins, the separation of her mortal self from her now spiritual body was imperfect, hence her occasional bouts of feeling. It wasn't until the arrival of a certain mercenary did Andruil suddenly suddenly understand. They were wary of each other at first. Maliect was puzzled at why their sword could not harm this being. Andruil was marveling at how this mortal, a blind one at that, is able to see her. It will take many moons before they warmed up enough to even exchange names. Andruil was alarmed at how difficult it was for her to recall her name. She had a name, right? Gradually, as they opened up to each other, Andruil learned to embrace her undeniable mortal emotions. Maliect was, for sure, a hostile and gloomy partner in conversation, but they still carried a wonder for the world around them. This wonder was not what they would willingly show to others, but they trusted Andruil enough... For the first time in her spiritual life, Andruil wondered who she was in a past life.
