Born into an allied Arcane clan, Phthalo joined the Clan of the Wandering Stars when he was young, eager to explore and find who he really was. Once May came into power after exiling the clan's founders, he found himself watching his every move, careful that he wouldn't be thrown out or exalted like some of his clanmates. May's reign lasted for several years until Phthalo decided to meet with some of his clan and try to remove her. Thankfully with May's remaining son August, Fenris, Garret, Cherno, and Lazuli, the group was able to get her to step down and banished her. Last they heard, May had joined another clan. It is unknown how she treats them there, as her state of mind is still in rapid decay.

After the revolt, the other dragons decided to give Phthalo the role as leader due to his incentive to do something that would fix and heal the clan. He only would accept the role if he would be able to rule alongside two others, creating a balance of power and a chance to create discussion. The two came in the form of Ember and Nova, both rescued. Vix was in the middle of taking home the two newest clan members when they were attacked. Ember stepped up to protect both Vix and Nova, proving she was strong enough and loyal enough to keep clanmates safe. Vix explained the event to Phthlao and he ended up asking Ember if she'd like to take on this responsibility. She accepted. Eventually Nova became old enough to prove herself as a good leader and was taken in as part of the trio.

The hatchlings call him Fallow since his name is hard to pronounce. Some of the other dragons call him this on occasion and he doesn't mind.
