The ancient dragon known as Draoi is wise and mysterious. His story is one shrouded in a veil of enigma. The founder of Clan Khuna is not known for divulging details on his past but so much is evident.

The Guardian who would later become known as Draoi was born under the name Chichen to an ancient bloodline. This particular family of Guardians were the descendants of the first Guardians, crafted from the Tidelord himself, who had gone on the first Search in history. Chichen's ancestors were among the first Guardians who found their charges on the Windswept Plateau, making their offspring the first Wind Guardians. Their family was bestowed with a blessing from the Windsinger, their new deity: They were gifted with immense elemental and magical prowess, able to manipulate the winds themselves to become superb flyers and gifted wizards.

Chichen lived a relative normal life. When he came of age, it was time for him to leave his clan and begin his Search. Little did Chichen know that this would be more than a passage into adulthood...it would change his destiny.

Chichen traveled from the Southern Icefields to the Viridian Labyrinth in his journey. But he became lost. Not physically, but in his soul. He forgot his Search. He was so entranced by the boundless knowledge that was opened to him, by the wondrous sights and exotic cultures, that he simply forgot why he was on his journey in the first place. He was too engrossed in tomes and lectures. Though he learned much on his voyage, he was not a Guardian. Not a dragon at all. He had yet to find a charge. Chichen was almost in his middle years when he realized his failure. Wrought with anger and disappointment at himself, he exiled himself back to the Windswept Plateau in shame. So that his family may not recognize him, as a broken and charge-less Guardian, he changed his name to "Draoi".

Draoi then found himself wandering the Plateau aptly as a druid. Contemplating and meditating along the way to redeem himself of his failure. Though he fervently sought out a charge, he never found one worthy of him. Distraught, Draoi headed to the eastern shoreline of the Plateau, where the great cliffs of the Plateau met the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He sat on the largest cliff's precipice, meditating. It is said he meditated for days on end, unnerved and unflinching, never leaving for sustenance or rest.

Then, one day...

He heard crying. Whimpering. A baby's wail. Coming from a bamboo grove in the distance. His meditation broken, Draoi headed to the sound.

And found an infant Irsúl, still wet from the egg, cowering in the grove. Filled with compassion and pity, Draoi cared for the abandoned chick. He raised her as his own. Though he loved her dearly, he felt within him that she was not his charge. Disappointed, but still happy for this new gift in his life, Draoi's resolve to find a charge was only strengthened.

But he now had to care for a young Guardian as well. Draoi then used the mighty magic he had been blessed with to carve within the large cliff a home. A vast, luxurious cavern was dug into the cliff. Most of the lair was underground, within the cliff itself. But every room or hall had holes carved out to face to face the sea so that wind would always be flowing through the structure. Though primitive and lacking a certain flair for comfort or luxury, the groundwork for the lair had been carved out of stone through mighty wind magic. As he used tumultuous wind to carve away the stone, Draoi found....something. Deep within the cliff's center, a massive geode, many times more massive than him. At first, he saw it as a nuisance, an obstacle course to his progress as it blocked most of the room he was currently building. After several hours of clawing and magic, Draoi managed a hole big enough to fit him. He clambered inside the geode...

...and gasped at the wondrous sight.

Crystals the size of mighty oaks glittered from all corners. And they glowed. The crystals shone all kinds of soft greens, like no other gems Draoi had ever seen. The geode was irregularly round and cramped, but Draoi could navigate it somewhat easily. He could feel there was something special about this place. Something he had yet to discover. And then his eyes rested upon something radiating a supreme magnificence from the center of the geode.

An artifact of ancient times. It emanated energy. It pulsated with green auroras. It was just a fragment of its true form, but it was a glorious sight to behold. And in that instance, Draoi found his charge.

Not much is known as to what the object was. Draoi had converted the blocked room into his personal quarters. A massive bookshelf lined with innumerable tomes covered the entrance to the geode. Only Draoi knows what lies behind. And Draoi rarely leaves his room these days. In there, he silently meditates and reads through his old books from time to time. It has been years since he released the mantle of leadership to Irsúl, his adopted daughter. Yet his old age does not render him feeble. He is still the founder of this clan, and will do anything in his power to defend it, its people, and his charge.

Though no longer the leader, Irsúl and the other dragons heed his council with the greatest of respect. No dragon dreams of disrespecting him. Though he rather dislikes such attitudes; he would much rather be the kind old grandpa than the harsh, retired general.
