Familiar: Afiyat's sandstrike, Anathema, is much more fearsome and assertive than he is, despite being less than one tenth of his size. What time she doesn't spend hunting is spent wrapped around the Ridgeback's neck, hissing at anyone who comes too close. Having her near him gives Afiyat a sense of security, even if she scares off most dragons who approach him.



As the clan librarian, Afiyat catalogs and hoards all scrolls and books that Lamprey Clan purchases or discovers. Timid and socially inept, the Ridgeback prefers not to interact much with the rest of the clan except when they are requesting a certain piece of literature. He was adopted from a neighboring clan by Lajitka with the intentions of raising him to become a hulking warrior to defend their borders, but these plans never came to fruition. Instead, Afiyat displays a fear of blood and battle, and refuses to kill anything larger than a sardine. He doesn't even exhibit any of the normal borrowing customs of Ridgebacks, because he was raised in a clan where he was the only one and never learned the behavior. The other Ridgebacks of Clan Lamprey find him very strange.

As one of the senior members of the clan, Afiyat has enough authority to send teams on archaeological expeditions into the Hewn City. Eventually, he wants to solve the mystery of the City, once he learns to keep his fear in check long enough to stay there for more than a few hours.
