Umbryx Crowclaw, also known simply as "Crow", is the consort of Overseer Austere Blackmoon. He is small for his breed, and Shade magick is constantly flowing just beneath the surface of his skin, making it appear as if he has black veins all over his body.

Inherited from his father, who was cursed by a Tengu, Crow is in a constant battle with an addiction to Shade magick. Umbryx's Mistress, Austere, possesses a magickal orb known as the Chaotica Orb that allows her to take control of those under the influence of the Shade. She uses the orb to ease Crow's suffering. This familiar is rather disrespectful of her (something she would not tolerate from anyone else), and he rarely expresses his gratitude with words. However, he pays his Mistress back by being the most loyal companion a leader could ask for. He may act shady towards everyone else - lying, stealing, and cheating - but Crow could never betray his Mistress; she essentially owns him, after all.

Umbryx is her familiar, guardian, and consort. He is ridiculously loyal to her, and obeys her every command.

Salem Farstar
His mother. He tends to become aggravated by her every time they speak. Needless to say, they don't talk much anymore. Salem is deeply involved with the Shade.

"I know who you are. I know what you do. I know all of it. I know about the Shade, the cults, the way you corrupted the Founders - and the accident! I know that you killed my father, you bitter old hag! I shall not play a part in your evil. How dare you even try recruit me. I'd tell the world if only they would believe me - I also know that you can weasel your way out of anything. You are a nasty, slimy creature, and I see you reaching for your wand. Sombre monitors this room, you know. Leave my presence at once!"

Mammon Crowclaw
Umbryx's father; a scientist with a passion for studying Shade magick. Mammon, who joined the clan in the time of the Founders, was seriously against the use of Shade magick, but he wholeheartedly believed that the clan needed a strong defense against it; so he spent his days passionately researching the Shade. Mammon founded the Blackmoon Clan's official Shade Defense faction, which has become a powerful force over the last few decades. Throughout his life it was unknown to Mammon that his mate Salem was deeply involved with the local Shade cults. Salem stayed silent about her opinions of the Shade, so naturally Umbryx took on the opinions of his father, who he had so much respect for. Umbryx was incredibly close to his father until he died in an alchemical explosion, despite being a skilled alchemist. Umbryx and his sister still suspect that the fatal accident may have been a set-up by their mother, who would have seen Mammon as a threat.

"Mother says you can still hear me from the other side, so, here it is, dad, here's my goodbye... I brought one last gift for you. It's that magic-stone you always called your 'cherished artifact'. I never told mother where it was hidden, just like I promised you. I brought it because... so they could bury it with you....I want to make sure it is always with you."

Seance Farstar
Crow's younger half-sister. She was born when Umbryx was an adolescent. They were closely bonded while growing up, but distance grew between them when Seance, in her adult years, chose to join their mother's Shade cult. Umbryx and Seance still get together on occasion, but when they do they only argue about everything. Their conversations end up being ultimately pointless.

"Oh, sister, that is just awful! Gods, why do you tell me these things? Cut out that Shade stuff and stick to arson. Watching things burn is much more satisfying."

Dammith
The two are drinking buddies who share a playful rivalry. Dammith was one of the first to join the Shade Defense faction created by Umbryx's father. Dammith and Umbryx met in their adolescent years and instantly bonded over their shared love of dark humor and intoxicants. In their adult years they both fell in love with Sombre and so they hated one another. Thankfully, the grudge didn't last long, but it did spark some kind of eternal rivalry between the two.

"I bet you all the treasure in my pouch that I can chug one of those sludge-drinks faster than you."

Mesmer

"Remember all that criminal stuff we used to do?"
"Heck yeah, I do."
"Never let me do any of those things ever again....Stop laughing, I'm serious."

Hexodex
As a guard, Hexodex has been required to punish Umbryx on many occasions, but she still holds respect for him because she recognizes his loyalty to her aunt Sombre.

"Yes, I am indeed a miscreant, that's who I am at heart and that's who I'll always be. But I'm the only one who can protect her, Hexodess. There are dangers lurking in this very clan that you are unaware of. I am the only one who can save her here."

He pretends to be annoyed by Desde but secretly enjoys the Pearlcatcher's presence.
