LELIANA
HEAD OF THE ADVENTURER'S GUILD  Unflappable. That was the word that came to mind whenever Leliana was mentioned. There was never anything that could shake her calm (some would say bored) demeanor. Not the brash attitude of younglings nor the threat of betrayal nor the appearance of a rampaging Emperor could make Leliana bat an eyelid. Her detractors are quick to call her cold and unfeeling, but in truth, after all those years of wandering, she had seen many an open sky. A traveler at heart, Leliana has explored the deeps of the Leviathan Trench and the coldest peaks of the Cloudscrape Crags. She has journeyed through the mystical pathways of the Starwood Strand, and the storm-hewed chasms of the Carrion Canyon. But more than being well-traveled, Leliana has made sure that she lives like a local whenever she settles somewhere new. She loves to soak in the culture, learning the odd habits of the Clan she's living with before moving on. The open skies are the only constant in her life. Wanderlust has stopped Leliana from staying, however much the Clans she visited have begged for her to stay. |
Which was why the letter she had received recently was so strange.
The words 'expertise' and 'permanent position' jumped out at her almost immediately. Wayne must be trying to butter her up. In all the time she had known him, Leliana was offended that he would resort to baseless flattery to get what he wanted. They had crossed paths down the long years, especially when it involved hidden treasure or murky conspiracies. Wayne flung his net of espionage just as widely as she traveled, and even Leliana could admit that it was unnerving for the blind Nocturne to know so much. Still, her reply to Wayne was casual and right to the point. She told him no and asked how his 'partnership' with the Tree Wardens was going. Two could play at this game. She amused herself by imagining the cringe on his face when he read her implication that he had willfully become a law-abiding citizen. It was a few more new moons and a drastic change of address before she received a response.
The parchment was splattered in blood and written by several different someones judging from the writing.
Wayne is missing...
He went after it alone...we told him not to go...
There's nothing left in his camp except for the maps we've enclosed for you...
The crypt caved in but there were tentacles...mouths...
