Devlin

The nest of parantless eggs gifted to Arrenzo long ago was growing smaller and smaller with each festival until only three remained, two tended occasionally by Quidlin, and the third tended more zealously by the attentive guardian, Calaeda, as her Charge. All the dragons of Kaitos assumed that the dragon inside was her Charge...

They were wrong.

At the very end of the Trickmurk Circus, Calaeda was awoken from her slumber by the egg rocking violently as the little creature inside struggled to be released. She pressed against it, trying to stop it from cracking open, desperate to protect the egg itself, even from its occupant. Her efforts were in vain. The little guardian inside burst free and tumbled out amidst the shattered remains of his egg.

For a moment, the two guardians locked eyes, before the older lunged at the younger, ready to kill the creature that had destroyed her Charge. Fortunately, the other dragons in the nesting area stopped her, coming between her and the newborn. Bramble hurried to the nest, having heard about the commotion, and she successfully ushered her newest honourary sibling to safety while she tried to figure out what to do with the suddenly violent guardian. The little hatchling listened to her discussing this with Kain and Michalis, before letting out a sharp cry when the topic turned to possible banishment. Bramble only had to take one look at him before she realised what was wrong. Calaeda was his Charge.

Bramble named her new little brother Devlin, and kept him safely away from Calaeda until he was old enough to not be killed by the angry guardian. He approached Calaeda again, having to surround himself with armour made from the toughest scales and thorns to protect himself. This worked, although Calaeda told him that he would always be the one she hated, and she was going to spend her days trying to kill him for destroying her Charge before she ended her own life. Devlin accepted this, vowing to never die so that she would always remain safe.

Devlin now spends his time with Calaeda, resisting any attacks or attempts on his life she may come up with. He is happy just being around her, despite her hatred of him, but he longs for the day when she might accept him. He knows this may never be possible, but he allows himself to dream. He is aiming to make himself stronger by fighting in the surrounding areas of the clan with his adopted siblings, Fiora and Favites, so that he will never be in danger of succumbing to her attempts on his life.
