Proioxis knows how much trust matters.
There are deities far older than the ones dragons worship now; old pantheons of gods and goddesses thriving off of prayer and offerings. When he came to the clan-- it was supposed to be a new start for him-- he expected to deal with young, clueless dragons who wouldn't recognise him for who he really was. It was a good life; he founded the clan's postal service and ran it with couriers he trained personally. It was a far cry from coordinating correspondences between fickle deities and their worshippers, but it was... good. Peaceful and quiet. The only worries he had was the occasional lost parcel or misplaced letter. He kept mostly to himself. Who else would understand that he'd been alive far longer than any of them can fathom, that he knew from experience just what a dragon drowning on dry land would feel like? It was a quiet existence, but it was a lonely one. About a year into that endeavour, Prometheus appeared. An engineer, soft of heart and bright of eye, he insisted on fixing up the then-malfunctioning letter-sorting machine. They spent a sunny afternoon together in the mailroom, making small talk as Prometheus fiddled with the machine and Proioxis went about his chores, and when he left, Proioxis felt something he hadn't felt in a very long time. It was a while before he could place it. Longing. It's not right for a deposed deity to fall in love. Or at least, that's what he believes. Even now, he tries to avoid Prometheus' affections, insisting on putting distance between them both. He can't bear to see the hurt in Prometheus' emerald-clear eyes, so he avoids and sidesteps and takes every possible precaution to keep away from the one dragon who makes him feel as vulnerable as he had on the day he was stripped of his power and banished to the mortal realm. Proioxis may be centuries old with the knowledge of several lifetimes, but he has yet to learn this: he is now mortal, susceptible to sickness and death and all manner of horrible things. Including love.
