While there are dragons in the clan who worry that Starstrike's position in the clan is unecessary as long as more diplomatic dragons (such as Irving and Rose) are able to do their jobs effectively, she disagrees wholeheartedly. Even Sunrunner admits that Starstrike's espionage is a much-needed middle-ground between diplomacy and open hostility. Besides, most of the time, there isn't anything terribly incriminating about her intelligence gathering. Her primary task is to monitor local Beastclans carefully, and to make sure that no threats could potentially be mobilizing against the clan.

Starstrike often pretends to be a merchant, or simply a traveler. She does not reveal her home clan, and when she does return home, chooses the most circuitous possible path to avoid being followed. As she claims to be from the Wyrmwound, many dragons tend to avoid her, terrified of possible contamination from being in her presence. For this reason, she is able to carefully observe other dragons while not being scrutinized herself.

She is fascinated by psychology, and uses it to analyze the dragons and beasts that she monitors. Despite being a Plague dragon by birth, she has adapted well to life in the Tangled Wood, and uses what she has learned of the art of remaining hidden in the shadows on the job. If any threat could potentially face the clan, Starstrike is always the first to know.
