Brisa has always been a misfit.

CHAPTER I: BACK HOME

PART I: THE NEWS

It was a dark time back home. The plaguebringer had spread havoc across the reigon, causing dragons to drop left and right. Buildings were abandoned and collapsed. Bridges fell apart on themselves. There was nowhere to run, and certainly no place to hide. This horrible, dark plague was a force that no flight could be able to fight. The only way this disease would end is for every last dragon to drop dead.
Soleil was sleeping in the shelter hut where Dune was being kept with her precious little egg. She held on to Brisa's egg like a pearlcatcher guarding it's beloved pearl. There was no way they would be seperated, and certainly no way it would be damaged. Soon, she was rudely interrupted by the shrill voice of a tiny fae.
"Excuse me, Ms. Soleil? I must have a word with you. It's urgent." Said the small fae.
She stayed in her seat. "Let's do it here. With my egg."
The doctor sighed. "Alright. It's about Dune, Madam... there's good news and bad news. I'll first let you know the good news. Dune is better. Miraculously we've found a working cure. He's healed completely and will be out of the shelter shortly. The bad news... He won't be going home with you. He'll be going off to war in the militia to the wyrmwound where hopefully he will help us heal from our struggles and rebuild our beloved town. He'll be going off at daylight. You can stay with him until we see the sun, and then he's off."
At first, the young skydancer was in denial. "No, no... Tatsuo, you aren't for real, are you? There's no way he can just go off like that..." However, she knew from the look he had on his face that she was dead serious. Dune would be going off to war in the blink of an eye.

PART II: THE SHOCK

Soleil tucked the small, fragile egg under her wing and ran into the room of the cured. She looked into his glassy eyes, and a tear rolled down her face. "Dune..."
He stopped her. "Soleil, there's nothing we can do. There's nothing that we can do to stop them from sending me off, dear... For once, there's nothing you can do to help."
Then came the absolute shock.
Soleil broke down into tears, dropping her dear egg on the ground and going into a completely depressed state. "Dune... How can I do it without you? How can I raise our child without you? How can I live my life without you?"
Dune stayed silent, because really, he didn't know the answer to that question. He picked up the small egg, and pulled it close to them and whispered to it. "I might never see you, my darling, but i'm praying to flameforger that you'll make it out alright. I love you more than anything already, and I will always be so proud everything you do."
And then, right then was where everything was about to change.

PART III: THE LAST GOODBYES

Horns blew off in the distance. War horns. A large imperial brushed through the drapes separating the sick from the well. "It's time. Please tell your families your last goodbyes. I won't wait more than a minute."
"You can't do this. Don't do this to me dune... please don't leave me!" Soleil begged, even know she knew that she couldn't do anything.
Dune whispered to her softly, "This won't be the last time I see you. I will fight for you, win for you, and come back for you. It's all for you, because you are the light of my life."
He looked back at Soleil and the egg one last time, giving a forced smile of mixed emotion, and walked through the curtain to go off to war.
Soleil weeped. The love of her life had disappeared in the snap of a finger. Her shoulder to cry on and the one who made her happy had vanished through the curtain. Now, her only priority would be her precious egg. She would raise the best child she could, and the greatest legend of history.

CHAPTER II: THE BIRTH OF A MISFIT

PART I: LIFE AFTER DUNE'S FAREWELL

A moon cycle had passed when Soleil decided to gather herself. Rather than spending her days in the shadows, weeping and sobbing, Soleil moved out of the shelter and spread her wings.
