Wanderer/Loner

A Lair Was Too Crowded for Him

His mother had children by three different males and never took a forever mate, and his was in the third batch of children. Being such Ryvven could never really connect with his siblings, especially his half siblings. His elder brothers both being spirals dreamed of distant lands filled with air currents that were larger than life. While he enjoyed a good air current as much as the other dragon, he didn't worship them as they seemed to. This often caused quite a bit of teasing growing up. His older sister was more concerned for her looks and shunned him for his. She found his eye spots gene unappealing and his colors bland, compared to her stunning purple. He got along just fine with his brother, being treated the same by their elder half brothers and older half sister, though according to her at least he didn't have eye spots on his wings. He felt further isolated from them due to his love for the desert, which his brother didn't share either. None of the other members of the lair had the same appreciation for the desert that he held either. When he came of age, he told his mother he was moving out and by then he had actually been in the desert many times and loved it, instead of just studying it from when he was very young. Despite the lair having massive finances, his mother didn't have much treasure. The only thing she could give him was an azure highnoon hank. He thanked his mother deeply and set off for his new life with his precious hank tied around his neck.

He Learned To Thrive

To survive he learned to hunt, forage, dig, and scavenge. He traded the food he had gathered for seafood from traveling merchants. Since he was alone he couldn't risk going to an Oasis for food, too many other clans, strong clans, controlled them. They didn't like outsiders. The merchants were nice enough and gladly took his gathered food and exchanged it. The merchants were also helpful with selling the random stuff he gathered. The little coin he got he spent on potions, so that he could heal when he was injured from hunting or worse, beastclans. Though as time when on he got good, really good. The beastclans that used to bother him left him alone, since he could destroy them if he wanted too. In addition he found an Oasis that other wanders like him had secured and together they protected it. While there they fished and prepared their catch, to take with them on their travels. He could really live and be self-sustaining. Despite being a wanderer, he wasn't a loner. He had multiple friends and would travel with several different dragons at a time. When one day hanging out at the Oasis, the topic of looks came up. Several of his friends boasted that they had tertiary markings, though suddenly the topic was him. Never having cared much about how he looked, he found it uncomfortable. Apparently the consensus was that he had the best coloring, they all adored how he looked like the desert. He disagreed, with his clown and eye spot markings, he just looked stupid. His friends just stared at him in disbelieve, until one of his female friends started laughing. She fished through he stuff and pulled out a mirror. She then held the mirror up to him and told him he didn't have the markings he thought he had. Looking in the mirror he found that his clown marking were... gone! Now he looked like rippled sand. The desert had physically changed him, now though he couldn't help but wonder if it would finally tell him what his tertiary color was. To celebrate his good fortune, he used his small hoard of treasure to buy a gloomy highnoon brimmer. Though his good fortune wasn't to last forever.

His Might Was Tested

His days of wandering around and hanging with his friends at the Oasis were suddenly brought to a halt. It all happened because one treacherous Imperial got greedy. He went to a large and powerful clan and told them about the Oasis. They were intrigued and agreed to give him enough treasure to buy an entire merchant bandwagon and still have enough left over to buy the bandwagon again, if he told them all about the defenses of the Oasis. So he told them all about the Oasis, including the strengths and weaknesses of various dragons that lived there. They powerful clan and the Imperial set off for the Oasis with the intent to take over and when they got there they mercilessly slaughtered everybody in sight. Very few dragons there had ever had to rely solely on themselves for protection and were used to fighting with others helping them. The invading clan vastly outnumbered the dwellers at the Oasis, so defending with others helping was rarely an option. Dragons fell rapidly to the might of the opposing clan, but not before taking the others with them. Ryvven’s sole goal was to protect his friends and this goal gave him the passion to overpower many of the other dragons. They fell by the droves to his might, having had lots of practice defending himself over his life in the desert. The leader soon realized that we would lose all his grunts if the battle went on too much longer. He called a retreat, not want to get involved himself. The treacherous Imperial didn’t leave with all the other dragons, since he wasn’t going to get paid. Due to not getting any money, he decided to stay at the Oasis. With the smoke starting to clear, Ryvven looked around for his friends. He didn’t see them at first, but noticed about 10 other dragons wandering around. He began to search for them, growing more and more frantic, convinced that they were playing a prank on him. Running all around the Oasis, he didn’t notice the small object on the ground until he stumbled over it. Looking down he discovered a mirror, his friends mirror. Next the mirror was his friend. Dead. With a started cry he jumped back only to trip over another dragon. Looking down he discovered it was another one of his friends. Also dead. Barely containing a panic attack, he turned in slow circle and looked at the bodies surrounding him. They were all his friends. All dead. All his friends had died. His heart seized in pain and guilt at not being able to protect his friends and he collapsed to the ground in a broken heap. He sobbed his soul out in his grief, though his misery was broken by a laugh. He looked up the dragon with vision blurry from tears. That dragon then proceeded to get over his friends since they clearly weren’t worth him, if they died so easily. Ryvven barely heard his words in his grief and with his vision clearing he got a good look at the dragon before him. Realizing that he was an Imperial, the same one that he saw with the invading clan. When he saw him, Ryvven had thought he looked incredibly familiar and now he remembered where he had seen him before. That Imperial was a frequent visitor to the Oasis, just like him. Realizing that the dragon before him had some connection to the clan that had killed his friends, his grief quickly turned to rage. He snarled before pouncing on pinning the opposing dragon to the ground. It didn’t matter that the other was four times his length, three times his wing span, and six times his weight, Ryvven was able to keep him pinned. He snarled down at the other and demanded to know what he had done. The Imperial laughed and proudly proclaimed that he had sold out the Oasis for a massive amount of treasure, that he was the one that had told the other clan about this place. Further enraged Ryvven killed him for causing his friends death. Noticing that the Imperial had on gloomy highnoon spurs, Ryvven decided to keep them as a trophy and wore them himself. At this display all the other dragons decided to leave, not knowing why Ryvven had killed the Imperial, but not wanting to be killed himself. Exhausted he made his way to the edge of the water and collapsed knowing now that he was soloing his life from now on.

He Became A Loner

No longer able to trust any other dragon or himself, Ryvven decided to be alone. The betrayal of one of his community members was painful, but the fact that he was unable to protect his friends was even more so. He glanced into the water and noticed he was covered in blood. His hat and neck tie were drenched as well. In fact, the only thing not covered in was the boots pulled from the Imperial. He sighed and removed his clothing, starting to clean it in the water. He then took them and left them to dry. Despite his diet of seafood, swimming never had much appeal to him and dunking himself in the water to clean was almost terrifying. But he didn’t want to be covered in blood for the rest of his life, so he braved the water. Once he was completely submerged he shot out hoping that had been enough to clean him. He really didn’t like swimming. Checking his reflection, he noticed that he was indeed clean of blood, but the water was playing some weird tricks. There were blue splotches in his coloring, which must be because of the water. Leaning back from the water he looked at himself and released the blue splotches were on him. And looked like gems. The gems reflected his own resilience and strength, since very little could break a gem. Holding up his wings and examining them, he realized that this blue was his tertiary coloring. Looking at the glittering blue on his wings, he couldn’t help but think that the desert had marked him as one of its jewels.
