Scymrian's clan sold her to a fighting ring to settle debts to the leader of the ring. Growing up, Scymrian, who went by the arena name "Rootless" due to her Nature origins, knew nothing but fighting. She began her training a few days after being bought, and training ruled her life until her fourth year of life. Then, the arena beckoned her out of want for fresh blood. Preparing to fight and recovering from fights seemed to rule her life in a cycle.

In the beginning of her forced fighting career, Scymrian made friends with some dragons from her training class. She grew tired of growing attached to others after enough of them died, both by her hand and by others. The guilt of killing other dragons in the arena lessened once Scymrian came to terms with the "me or them" view of death, but the deaths would not truly stop affecting her until six or seven months in the arena.

Her familiar, a Marbled Seprenta named Mercy, was a gift from Gourmand. Seeing the bright colors he adores on the familiar makes her smile after a particularly bad day.
