My parents are Thelpast and Dream. I know they aren't my blood-parents, I'm not stupid. Two tundras made a nocturne. MAGICAL. No, I know I came from elsewhere. Mom just says "Go ask your father" and then Dad won't tell me anything. Just "when you're older".
I'll wait a few more generations before I strike out on my own.

Don't get me wrong, I love my parents. They've been so kind that I could never think of them as anything but my parents. They're my family, and I don't remember anything otherwise.

Well, almost nothing.

I have a vague memory of a voice growling "Perfect" that echoes in my dreams. Mom tells me it's a nightmare and then snuggles me into her fur.

Maybe it is.

The patterns started appearing on my scales recently. A twisting, glowing nebula shining as bright as the night sky itself.

Dad took me to the clan I was from once he recognized these patterns.

We went at night, flying over in a single pass so as to not draw attention to ourselves. He told me if we were caught we could be killed. For some reason... I already knew this. But I saw my blood-father! A nocturne like me, with the same nebulae across his scales. I gasped, and dad grabbed me and veered me quickly out of the lands.

I was too focused to pay attention like dad wanted me to; I missed the point of our trip. I can feel his disappointment as we fly back home, where mom quickly pulled me to her side and glared at dad.

I wanted to know, though. I wanted to know what I missed. So he explained.

I understand why he stole me away.
