Born by the ice seas of the far South, he swam and flew his way North as far as he could to see the world for himself instead of remaining trapped on his homeland. His travels inevitably took him to an Isle that appeared under only the right, unknown conditions, and he descended to the ice-capped crests.

It was nothing short of unbelievable when he saw her.

She was radiant; lovely, surreal in her beauty. And she was so consumed with her own vanity. It was like a one-dragon circus, watching her preen herself and flit around, showing off to either herself or no-one.

Aufeis was not stupid. He considered himself cunning, and preferred to be left alone, but he enjoyed good company and having a laugh as much as the next dragon.

And she repulsed him in each and every one of these ways.

He hated her.

It brought him great pleasure when, confronted with his apathy for so long, she fell apart. He reveled in the prospect of her finally leaving him alone.

Instead, she revealed her true self in a string of foul curses from every end of the earth. Haile was eloquent, and well-learned to know such words, and venomous, and hated him genuinely.

Naturally, he fell in love.
