History

Oh, it seems now like it was an age ago.

Unfurled wings testing the breezes for the first time among the shelter of young bamboo reeds, a white dragon is born in the seas of autumnal golden grass. It was just she and Fluto back then, playing in the rolling hills over bold cliff drops. Miles of open sky stretched over miles of lapping waves, blue to blue as far as the eye could seen the horizon. The gusts always coaxing, always running beneath the younglings wings until they would finally be baited by the breath of the great earth, and leap over a tall canyon for their first flights. Compelled by the torrents, the younglings grew into proper juveniles, spending long weeks with wings outstretched, coasting on generous currents around the globe.

Youth was simple then. Age seemed simple even in the years of her maturity. Life had been nothing but good and kind to the pair, and though their adventures brought with them new friends and great challenges, but as Agua grew older, the Guardians Search called to her, setting in her a longing for home. The two let the wind carry them home, and Agua found a grand and empty canyon that begging for her watchful eye. Constructing a lair from the complicated tunnel system that wove through the walls of the chasm, they settled in to make their home.

Over decades they would sire children, rearing and loving until they were old enough to part from the nest, gone away to forge new lairs, new clans. Some would even rise to serve the gods. Instead of their own young staying to roost in their own lair, the pair came to accept many other dragons who would cross their way.

Adventurers like they themselves had once been, old friends, outcasts, and the orphaned. All were generally welcome, though not all who spent their time in the lair would stay forever. Now and again, however, a dragon comes along to make its home among the bamboo shoots and sheer cliff faces. There's always an empty space for a new face, a new friend, or a new baby. The two have always ruled their lair with sensibility and understanding, always lending a claw or an ear for those in need who find them out in the Plateau.
