The huge grey guardian pads over to you, her steps impossibly soft. She is actually on the smaller side for a guardian. Are you finding everything you need, traveler? she rumbles, dipping her head low to look you in the eye. Although her voice is subsonic and you can feel it resonating through the floor, she somehow manages to make her voice soft, and it envelops you like a blanket. She tilts her head to one side and gently nudges you with her nose. Would you like some food or water? Or perhaps you would rather rest in one of our rag-nests? She looks concerned, and you realize you have been unresponsive.
"Oh, I'm fine," you hurry to reassure her, "It's just that your voice is so nice."
Are you sure you don't need a short nap? she inquires, gesturing with her head and antlers to a pile of slightly worn pillows and blankets.
Is that a couch cushion? You can see dents in it where other dragons have curled in for a snooze. Oh, you simply must try it. "Only if you keep talking," you tell the dragon, "Your voice is so soothing, and I don't even know your name yet."
Oh, goodness gracious, you're right! she exclaims. You settle deep into the cushion pile, which cradles your body as if it was always meant for you. My name is Nyenta. I'm the brood mother here, and I oversee all the nurseries and hatchlings, including the hatchlings we've adopted from other clans. Her voice swells with pride. I look after all my hatchlings, even those who have grown, like Kyros. I'm very fortunate to have found this clan, she tells you, setting her bulk in next to you and crossing her forelegs in front of her. As you know, many guardian dragons don't know what they are supposed to be guarding. Well, she grins, (somehow without teeth), my charge are the homeless, the lonely warriors, the lost souls. I myself was once a lost soul. Many of the lost souls of the world end up here, blown in on the ever-present breeze. I am the dreamcatcher, designed to catch those who are ready for a family - a place to belong. Once I realized that, the Windsinger blessed me with these horns. I use them to defend my charge, she says after the pause. A comfortable silence absorbs you both.
You start to fidget. How long is this guardian going to keep you here? You aren't a lost hatchling... As you struggle back to your feet out of the extremely comfortable seat, Nyenta's far away gaze snaps back into focus. It seems as if you are ready to continue your journey. Have fun exploring, dear. Be safe, and please stop by if you ever travel this way again, the great grey guardian murmurs with a smile. You smile your thanks, then step out of the cave into the bright sunlight.
