Pronounced 'LEER-in'. Overconfident and haughty, he has a penchant for machinations and mind games, and is quick to remind others of his value to the clan as the founder's consort and one of the most powerful mages in residence. Childish, entitled, vain, egotistical and resentful, it is easy to fuel his mean streak and earn his ire. There is, however, a kernel of gold beneath such an abrasive exterior- if one is willing to dig for it. He was found by Idriia as a hatchling during an incredibly busy day at the market. Terrified and utterly lost, the small mirror hatchie was largely ignored by the larger, older dragons rushing around him, stepping on and kicking the tiny creature hither and yon as he cowered underfoot. She and Ziir attempted to find the youngling's clan, to no avail. She knew he was orphaned like she was, and so seeking out the little one's parents was a futile endeavor. Instead, he was taken in by the kindly matriarch and given education and tutoring in his natural magical gift. During this, the matriarch saw to it that he was cared for- perhaps a bit too much, as if trying to make up for the trauma he suffered as a hatchling- and as a result, he became quite spoiled. His caretakers found it a chore to care for him, and eventually grew to resent the self-centered dragon, each never staying too long- either leaving on their own accord, or being manipulated into being fired or quitting by Liiryn himself. Once he'd matured, he found the distance growing between himself and his mentor-leader to be most dissatifactory, perturbed deep in his core at the mere thought of such a chasm growing between them. Though she hadn't personally raised him, he felt she was the center of his success and a closeness to her that he couldn't quite describe. At this point, he found his matriarch attractive in more ways than one- but most of all, he didn't want to lose her or the position he could have at her side. He did the only logical thing he could in order to increase his rank and earn the closeness of his lady- he wormed his way into her nest as her consort, changing himself in breed and appearance to better suit her- and, of course, to aid the clan in their relations and success by producing better offspring. His plan worked... for a time. Eventually the matriarch grew to be too busy to enjoy his company in the nest- or anywhere else, for that matter, and he worried that it was beginning to happen again. He worked diligently to retain her attentions, but in the end it was for naught. Idriia, as always, worded her decision with politeness and respect- and she called their relationship to an end. Their clan had grown in size and influence, and she had no time to devote to a mate within the clan while she was negotiating political alliances and dealing with the day-to-day. She was coming from a place of consideration, afraid that her increasing duties would leave him lonely and loveless, and wanting him free to pursue another who could give him the love and attention he needed. While it was somewhat true that he'd felt that way, Liiryn wasn't so much concerned with that in the way she thought. He was more concerned with the loss of power he could wield around the clan. The worst part of the separation was the introduction of his nemesis. Unbeknownst to him, Idriia had been negotiating the move of one of their daughters to a new clan. He returned one day to find the clan in a curious state, and it was only through his first daughter, Iliirya, that he discovered that a newcomer was being welcomed and shown the lair. Not so bad a thing, he'd thought- until he set eyes on the drake. He immediately felt a sense of dread; perhaps it was his magical senses giving him a warning, but even they weren't needed to see the truth. The way she looked at him... Liiryn knew. He was being replaced. But as if to add insult to injury, the newcomer was only there because he'd been traded as a replacement member for his very own daughter. Now, he burns with the sting of rejection and shame, taking out his frustration and fear on unsuspecting victims. Having been a part of the clan for longer than most, he takes full advantage of his rank in the clan to bully and manipulate others to his own ends. While to most it seems he's only lashing out in a childish manner, Liiryn has been hard at work establishing a net of information to be used to his advantage at the right time. Blackmail is certainly not below him; and once he's acquired the things he needs, he plans to show her he is the only one worthy of being by her side. |

Ralla - A presence in the clan Liiryn tries his best to avoid. The dragoness is far too sharp and downright terrifying to fall for any of his machinations, and has thwarted him enough times that he no longer even tries to catch her up in any of his schemes. |

Piergeron - His arch-nemesis. While Idriia has never engaged in anything but friendly conversation and platonic interactions even with his elevation to co-leader, Liiryn holds an irrational hatred for this drake. He considers Piergeron the cause of his misfortune, especially given that he's stumbled upon and thwarted more than a few of Liiryn's machinations and seems somewhat aware of his scheming. They have a mutual dislike and distrust of each other, though Liiryn is far more open about it than he is. |
