Cassiodon is an enigmatic presence on the fringes of the clan's territory, at least most of the time. She considers herself an ally of the clan, to some extent anyway, and she sometimes comes to the caves to exchange news or bolster the meat stores, but her reasons for this are not entirely clear. Certainly the clan would protect her if she needed their help, but she is by all appearances entirely self-sufficient and has never asked for such a thing. She has what she, at least, considers to be her own territory, centered on a half-buried ruin where she takes shelter on the rare occasion she needs it; the ruin is marked on the clan's maps, and is within their current territory, but they don't know Cassiodon has claimed it. She prefers that her exact location and activities remain unknown to them. To be easily found would bind her too closely to the clan, and she has no desire to be bound to anyone except herself. Her interaction with other dragons in general is limited. There are others in the wastes who sometimes run with her, who she has the knowledge to find again when she wants their company, but for the most part she travels alone. She defends some parts of her territory more fiercely than others—the closer you get to the ruin, the more danger you'll be in, and Cassiodon is probably stronger and faster than you. Even on the outer reaches she is fairly hostile toward interlopers. Dragons of Sparkspell she recognizes, even if she hasn't visited since before they joined the clan, and she is not exactly friendly toward them, but she will sometimes speak with them and offer protection or food on occasion. The clan has great respect for her, as a dragon surviving one of the most inhospitable parts of Sornieth on her wits alone, and she has great influence over their decisions when she deigns to involve herself. Mainly she regards them as an odd little patch of safety in the desert, or at least more safety than is usually available, and if she is suitably impressed or worried by a lone dragon she encounters she will direct them to Sparkspell's lair. For all that you may hear of her from those who pass through her lands, she is not without compassion. She has a certain fondness for hides, and oddly-shaped bones, and she will sometimes place them as markers of her territory to remind herself of where she has been. Often they don't last very long, as she is not the only living thing out here, but this doesn't trouble her; new ones are easy enough to come by. Material possessions mean little to her. What matters is her life, her freedom. |
