She was born with a severe look about her, which always seemed to set dragons off a little. She dresses in bones, feathers, and wind chimes which she believes will protect her from the spirits she communes with. She wears a mask at all times, no one is sure why. She has a morbid sense of humor, which is almost a requirement of a future Necromancer. A recent new arrival has been arranged to be her mate. His name is Boltai and Hyperspace isn't not sure what to think of the arrangement. It was arranged by Hyperspace's half sister Fortuna who has been very busy making matches for many in the clan. However she claims that Hyperspace is going to absolutely love Boltai if she gives him a chance. But Hyperspace is slow to trust anyone.  When Teovanth's army attacked the clan, Boltai stayed behind with some of the other Bereft to by time for the rest of the clan to get away. Unfortunately Boltai did not survive the initial attack. Despite the fact that Hyperspace's pairing with Boltai was purely for political reasons, she had grown used to his company, and she couldn't help but blame herself that he'd sacrificed himself for her. After the clan settled into the mountains she set to work. As an apprentice necromancer she decided on what she had to do and knew how to do it. She gathered all her instruments. Her chimes and bones, her herbs and sacred stones, and then left and went out to an icey plateau where she could work uninterrupted. She preformed the ritual which took a whole day and night. By the end she was cold and drained, but she could see a shape emerging from the center of her casting circle. When she finished chanting there was a half rotten skydancer sitting before her. He resembled Boltai in shape alone. She shivered, her legs weak and her heart sick. The creature hummed at her, blinking it's blank eyes in concern. His gaze missed the intelligent expression Boltai had once had. He wouldn't be able to speak, Hyperspace knew he would not be the same. "Shhh..." Hyperspace said. "You shouldn't try to speak." The creature frowned and hesitantly nodded. He probably didn't remember who he was, so Hyperspace would have to remind him. "Your name is Boltai," she said. Then she hesitated, if she told him her name he would be free to act how he wished. He would not be under her control, and he could even retaliate against her for bringing him back. But she had to trust that though he couldn't remember who she was he at least had traces of Boltai's kind spirit. "I ... I am called Hyperspace." He looked at her with fear in his eyes. She could tell he couldn't understand what had happened to him. "You... you died Boltai. I brought you back." Hyperspace said as her legs grew weaker, she laid down on the ice, unable to stay standing any longer. "Everything will be okay. Your body might be stiff but the ice and cold here will keep it from rotting much at all." Boltai hummed again. He probably wanted answers, more information. Hyperspace hesitated. She had never loved Boltai, they were a couple in ceremony only, but she couldn't let him go. He'd become her friend and she couldn't except he was dead. "I ... I missed you. I wasn't ready for you to be gone yet. You're not allowed to leave me yet." The creature approached her, and her heart beat fast in fear. It could kill her now if it wanted. She'd given it her name. But she saw a kind look in his eyes as he reached out to her to help her to her feet. He wants to help me, she thought. She smiled, the unease in her chest lifting slightly. Maybe he was more like Boltai than she'd hoped. She let him help her up, and gestured toward the cave where the clan lived. She didn't know what trouble she was going to be in when she came back to the clan with a living corpse servant. She'd broken the rules. The necromancers were supposed to only dabble in spirits and seances. Reanimation was strictly forbidden. Hyperspace knew she was going to be punished for this. |
