Biography

Freoseth
Founder of the Frostfjord Academie
ytfKgEU.png
OAgwSvy.png
Fae-Hearted.
Those are the words left by one of her children in their biography of their mother. As that record goes, Freoseth was found and hatched by fae living off the southeast shore of the Southern Icefields. As she grew, she fostered relations between the colony of fae and the nearby town of Frostfjord, a small trading port on the Icefields side of the Southern Strait. Eventually, the two would become united, thanks in large part to her efforts to unite them.

It is there that she met her future mate, Cedrus, the son of the village elder. Together, they traveled across Sornieth, and Freoseth learned all there was to learn of elemental magic. When at last she returned to Frostfjord, as Cedrus grew into his role as the village head, Freoseth began her life's work: the Frostfjord Academie.

From what records remain the writings of her hatchlings, in the words of her fellow founders and coworkers, Freoseth is considered a brilliant mage, scholar, mediator, and yet frigid, distant, and expressionless as the fae that raised her - hence her title, her legacy, "Fae-Hearted." While Freoseth is remembered as a great collator of knowledge and an altruistic patron of the arts, the sciences, and the arcane, there exist in equal measure complaints that her heart was as cold as her demeanor.

The Academie.
Freoseth's life work, the Frostfjord Academie, is a testament to its founder's vision of peace for all. It, and the town it is named after, have become famous for a wide barrier that forces all dragons within to assume a human form. This is in line with the Academie's stated missive of equal opportunities and non-discrimination: only at graduation are the students able to see each others' scales.

However, even with such lofty goals, the usual foibles of dragonkind have permeated through the Academie since Freoseth's retirement. Cliques formed by elemental flight; discrimination against the scholarship students by the nobility, the wealthy, and the famous; and self-serving faculty have tarnished the Academie's reputation. The school is known now as elitist and snobby, its professors eccentric bordering on untenable.

Even so, perhaps as a testament to Freoseth's contributions, Frostfjord Academie is still considered one of the greatest bastions of talent in Sornieth. Those who can survive the social rigors often find that there is no single greater place to foster their interests than the walls of the Academie, and the professors are still at the top of their field, despite their eccentricities. Attending the Academie, therefore, is still considered an incredible privilege.

The Ghost Woman.
Although it has been nearly two and a half centuries since Freoseth's passing, there are still rumors across not only the Academie, but throughout the town of Frostfjord itself, that Freoseth still sometimes walks to wailing mountains.

A common scary story told in the dorms is that Freoseth may sometimes be seen walking the halls, especially in the hallway in which a portrait of her human and dragon forms side-by-side are hung. There are also legends that say that somewhere in the Academie is a hidden passageway that leads into Freoseth's hidden chambers, filled with frozen trophies from her days traveling the world.

Her children have written before that Freoseth was distant, disapproving, and cold; her grandchildren wrote that they hardly ever saw her face. Her contemporaries often wrote of her as haughty, her co-founders called her "secretive" and "suspicious." Perhaps it is this bitterness that has tainted her reputation, and changed her story from one of altruism to one of hauntings - or perhaps there is more to the ghost stories than meets the eye.
