Kaiju

Born into the tiny form of a Fae dragon, Kaiju always felt that the skin of the Fae dragon was confining in some way. It was practically impossible for her to get anyone to take her seriously and so she sought out a way to make people listen to her. She found her form too small for most forms of combat and so she took to the library and began to pour over books on tactics, old dusty maps, and reenacting old battles from the history books to work on figuring out where things went wrong and how it could’ve gone differently. She started challenging some of the other dragons in the lair to strategy games and eventually build a reputation of being “undefeatable”. Her efforts drew the attention of some of the stronger warriors of the clans and she found herself being challenged to battle them with strategy. Eventually she was even able to beat the best tactics master in the lair and word of her brilliance began to spread.

She was pulled aside by Buchanan and they began to talk more about tactics and wars. The old Guardian soon found Kaiju’s mind to be just as remarkable as the rumors said and he began to pull her into some of the strategy meetings.

One night while she was resting in her lair, a strange gift showed up. The scroll was wrapped and seemed to have feathers etched on it, but not in ink. Curious, she opened it and once she read it she felt a change come over her. The change was frightening at first and she lost consciousness. When she awakened it was to see old Buchanan leaning over her and querying about her health. She responded that she was fine and when she went to rise she found her body unwieldy, she spread her wings to catch her balance and was speechless as she caught sight of the feathers stretching out to both sides. Buchanan didn’t even seem to make note of her change and simply told her to pack because they would be heading to a meeting of the clans to discuss battle plans.

Kaiju checked her things and then headed out of her lair. The form of the skydancer gave her a very different perspective on things and she found that she enjoyed it far more than the small form of a fae. Like Buchanan no one seemed to comment about her change and while Kaiju wondered at that, she soon got distracted by thoughts of the upcoming meeting. She met Buchanan at the appointed place and the two made their way to the clan meeting where she was introduced as a co-leader of the Savannah Oak Clan and a key tactician. The other dragons in the meeting accepted that and they got down to business.

While she was concentrating on business there was something just on the outer edge of her vision that kept catching her attention and she would ruthlessly jerk it back to what was going on. Finally the first round of meetings were done and she went to eat and that is when she met him. He introduced himself as Baldr and immediately hit it off. For the rest of the meeting when Kaiju wasn’t in the war room with the rest of the clan leaders gathered, she was with Baldr who regaled her with interesting stories of everything except war.

When the gathering ended, Kaiju was a bit wistful at being parted from him, but kept her expression stoic as she said her good-byes. She and Buchanan were about halfway home when a loud crack echoed from the underbrush and the two whirled to fight, Buchanan taking the front as Kaiju still hadn’t built up the physical stamina to participate in a pitched battle. The sound turned out to originate from Baldr and the male Skydancer made his apologies then informed Kaiju that he’d be joining her clan.
