John Hawkens
Noble Mage Lord
Dutiful, Loyal, Arrogant
Art by Me!
Hawkens was a vain sort of dragon. Not the type to want to fight physically and risk ruining the mane he claimed he put hours of work into, nor the type to willingly take a stroll through the Mire. It was muddy, and by the time he'd gotten out he'd be scraping dried mud from between and under his claws for weeks! His companion, on the other hand... Well, the best way to put it was to say that his companion and himself weren't exactly one in the same. The Wildclaw that often travelled alongside him was adventurous and careless, preferring more to run ahead despite what dangers he may face and rely on his strength to get him out of most problems. Saying the two dragons were different was the lightest way to put it. They were more than that. Polar opposites. Being an adventurous spirit, Gaius didn't have a lot of time to stop and worry about, oh, are my feathers in order? or is there a miniscule spec of dust only I've noticed but will absolutely ruin my appearance? or any of that silly nonsense. It was no different the day the unlikely duo took to the Scorched Forest, the Imperial of course muttering to himself about the mess being made on his scales. Gaius, as usual, was running slightly ahead, only to plop himself low to the ground for a moment- not unlike the way a fox would as it listened for its prey. "Owlcats!" He declared, gesturing to the tracks between his claws. Hawkens rolled his eyes and slunk past, his gait similar to that of a...regal ferret. It sounded like an oxymoron, regal ferret, but he made it work, unlike most other Imperials, who just sort of bounced around with every step. It was, truly, a downside of having silly little legs and a long body. "...those obviously belong to Augite Protectors," he muttered after a long moment, eyeing the pawprints with a blank stare. Gaius was more focused on comparing the size to his own feet, though, humming in deep thought. He rubbed his chin slowly before following the trail down the way some, sticking close to his adventure buddy. "I don't think so.." The smaller dragon drawled out, leaning down and touching a hand to the prints. They were bigger than a normal domesticated familiar cat's, and more heavyset to boot. It had to be an Owlcat, clearly. Augite Protectors were heavy thanks to their armor - was it armor? - but had smaller paws. Besides, Protector tails always dragged in the soil a little. He went on to explain this as they walked on, Hawkens occasionally picking things he deemed useful up off the ground and tucking them into a large bag. He eventually shook his head and groaned softly, plopping back onto his haunches to try to comb some singed brambles from his mane. One of his ears twitched in annoyance, flitting backwards attentively while a few steps crept closer. Before the Wildclaw could even think about making a move, he opened his mouth and spoke a simple, curt, "don't go anywhere." Gaius huffed and flopped down next to him, waiting for his appearance to be restored to its usual pristine state. He grinned when his friend finally stood back up, bounding back to his feet and racing off backwards to see what adventures awaited from those noises. "Owlcats! I told you!" He cried victoriously, rushing back to tug him along, as if the Owlcat was going anywhere fast. "That doesn't mean those tracks belonged to it!" Hawkens pointed out, turning back around indignantly. Gaius groaned and followed along dejectedly. "Am I ever going to get you to take my side?" "Maybe eventually.." He decided, a small smile starting to pull at his lips; a perfect smile, one that wasn't the least bit crooked. When his Wildclaw friend perked up and grinned, he shook his head. "Probably not."
