Chief
~Enduring Underdog~
Atlas has only taken over the ranch months ago, as an able coatl, he has to prove himself to the larger and older dragons under him. He's only 23 years old and a fair portion of the ranch's crew look down on him for his age. He inherited the range from his father, for Atlas felt it had potential despite his father planning to shut it down for lack of profit. Hiring more hands and picking the company up from it's bootstraps, Atlas worked his best to improve the ranch- not only in quality, but for the life of the workers and even their centaurs. He might not have had a single callous to his fingers when Atlas started, but now those small paws are definitely a working man's. Often working hard alongside his workers and even their centaur servants at times, he's put his back and blood into this ranch. Despite resistance from his underlings, Atlas isn't giving up so easily. Before, the centaurs were ill treated. Underfed, whipped, unclean and often injured or left to disease, there was no wonder the ranch was failing. Atlas knew that was no way to treat anything, even animals. Some of the surviving centaurs have sworn a sort of loyalty to Atlas. They'd been in the ranch for too long, and the sight of Atlas' father still makes them cower. Atlas is a blessing compared to the lives they led before. Atlas has no plans to sell them, they're too old, hurt and scarred. Instead, he gave them easier jobs, even taught two or three to read for his book keeping. His employees however, especially the ones from old management, doubt Atlas' authority due to how well he treats the beasts. The other dragons think it's a waste of time and effort. Why should they take orders of this fledgling? He looks as if he's in his downy feathers, the pre-pubescent brat telling them what to do? Funny. But Atlas has to work with what he's got. The ranch is still too new to afford better... Hopefully their attitudes will improve... Recently, Atlas was humiliated after one of the crew members tried to pin him up against a wall. The dragon had grown fed up of the coatls' persistence to make him do his job, almost choking Atlas as he vented his red-faced rage and yelled at him in front of the rest of the ranch. One of the older, loyal centaurs attacked Atlas' aggressor, rearing up and kicking them down. It saved Atlas, but at the price of his dignity. He's in a tough spot, though the attacker was fired, plenty of others aren't going to forget how weak he was at that moment. Life's only gotten that much harder for Atlas. His father got word of it soon after. Several hours of another fat dragon yelling his ears off, this time for not punishing the centaur for staining his honor. Like Atlas would lay a hand on the beast for helping him... |
