Lore

Most contemporary Nocturnes, once fledged, stay within their clan, moving from dragon to dragon and trying on personalities like apparel before settling on one to Follow and mimic. Kyanite never really wanted any of that for himself, heritage be damned. Neither his father nor his mother understood any of his Arcane-borne voracious curiosity, but supported him in his journey to a nearby Fire clan. He stayed with their Coatls for a while, immersed in their culture, but ultimately found himself wanting after a while. It was time to move on. Perhaps he'd slip through the wires of the Spire, or traverse the remote Icelands, or brave the Crescent to mingle with his own kind. Whatever direction he went, he was sure he would learn more.

Kyanite started his journey toward the Windswept Plateau, finding himself near a lair in the Zephyr Steppes first. He landed nearby and looked around at the landscape, admiring it. He eventually made his way to the clan's peaceful lair. He wandered in and saw dragons of all shapes, sizes, breeds, and many, many different colors. He was taken to the clan's Fae leader, Coralia, and welcomed with open wings. Other dragons led him to a special nest they had just for travelers. He was very pleased with his nest and took the rest of the night to rest. He stayed for a few days, meeting everyone and sharing stories. No two dragons were alike in this clan, and he liked that. He yearned to see what other clans were like. As soon and he had wandered in, he wandered out to continue his quest.

Growing tired and weak Kyanite landed outside the dark and mysterious clan, the leader Gamzee greeted the young nocturne and offered him a place to stay. At first Kyanite hesitated but soon give in when he felt how tired he was. He has been gifted Darksteel Amulet of Necromancy by Gamzee's mate Cleopatra. After many days within the lair Kyanite thought it was time to leave but sadly has been effected by the tiant, Cleo told the young dragon that it will slowly courrupt him and can turn him into a slightly insane dragon. He bows his head and flew away before he became anymore tainted.

He stumbled through the Tangled Wood until he was taken in by a few kindly dragons. They brought him to the lair and he was immediately overwhelmed by the industry of the place. Dragons bustled to and fro, most not paying him any mind. Fearing that he would infect this place, Kyanite almost fled but his rescuers convinced him to stay just one night. One night turned into two, then into weeks. The scientific and magically minded dragons in the lair were keen to help cure Kyanite of his misfortune and remove the necklace from him. As the time passed, he found himself subject to strange new urges, to hurt others, to feel their blood in his mouth.

Terrified of giving in to these new desires he hid himself away in the back of the lair, only interacting with a select few. The dragons trying to cure him redoubled their efforts and strange markings began to appear on his skin and wings. One of the other dragons in the lair became smitten with Kyanite's new markings, and together they laid a clutch. However she soon realized the danger she had put her unborn children in and banished Kyanite from the hatching areas forbidding him to ever see his children. Stricken by the sudden loss of both his mate and his children, Kyanite went back to his hideaway. He would leave after his children hatched in hopes he would see them on the way out.

The day before his children were born, the dragons made a breakthrough. A spell cast on a pair of googles with particularly rare crystals for the lenses yielded results. The spell would keep his madness from spreading though it could not undo the damage that had already been done. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Kyanite thanked the dragons profusely and for the first time in a long while felt hope kindle inside of him. The dragons went onto explain that while it would keep his madness at bay, they did not know if the aura given off by the amulet was still catching.

Understanding he was still a danger to the lair, Kyanite left the next day. He was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of his children before he left and what he saw saddened him. The babies bore the same markings as he did, but their colours were dull and lifeless. He hoped that he had not infected them as well.
