  What a lovely thing she is, lit up golden by the sun in her palms, her eyes fever-bright with fire and her mouth all light and smoke. There is dusk in the cradle of her wings, dawn running in her bones and blood: Lightweaver’s child, they call her, carved from the sun and stars and flame until this, obsidian-bright, fire-soft, silver and gold.

There will be those that smile at her reverence, think her lost to her idolatry, her promises to a distant god, a lovely child carving out her heart and lungs, drawing the blood from her veins for an uncaring sun in its heavenly path: Let them.

She is not a savior or a benign priest. She has no interest in persuading those already following the dark and cold. Her tongue is made for flames, not blessings, and the prayers she whispers are not meant for anything less than the sun itself; there is a fire blistering beneath her skin and simmering in her claws and teeth. Her loyalties are molded in smoke and heat. She has known too much of flames and dreams to think that nothing of shadows exist.
