Biography
Bamboo Shark Serpents:
Bamboo Shark Serpents like to hide amongst the massive stone structures that support the Sea of a Thousand Currents' reefs. They lie in wait for prey to swim past their noses, which are then sucked in faster than the blink of an eye. The young of this species are often found nosing through mud on the ocean floor. These sneaky predators remain in the benthic zone their entire life, and rarely (if ever) surface.
These dragons are more active after the sun sets. Occasionally, during daylight hours, they are found in sea caves in massive piles. If they can be found, they scatter and grumble when disturbed. However, they are known to be surprisingly docile with other dragons. A few have been convinced to leave the ocean floor and spend time among the land clans.
Many rumors circulate about Bamboo Shark Serpents due to their closed off nature. Discussions with those that have migrated to land have revealed more about their nature. It has been confirmed that they can detect electric stimuli, which explains their exceptionally precise hunting. There are rare stories of these dragons laying eggs without a mate, though it has yet to be confirmed.
Real Life Inspiration:
"These sharks feed at night, preying on small fish and invertebrates...Juvenile sharks need a higher intake of carbon than adults sharks, especially during the wet seasons. White spotted bamboo sharks have an advantage in finding carbon sources because they are benthic predators (meaning they prey on fish near the sea-bottom), as opposed to pelagic sharks...(T)hese species of sharks have, like most sharks, (have) electroreceptors (ampullae of Lorenzini) along their snout to help them locate prey that is buried in the sand and mud."
"A female Chiloscyllium plagiosum that had no contact with a male for 6 years, laid eggs which hatched 3 young at the Belle Isle Aquarium in Detroit, Michigan. There are many theories for this incident but none are confirmed."
