Biography
Blue Dragon Tangs:
These dragons habit the reefs around the continent's edge, primarily the Fishspine Reef. They primarily feed off of seagrass, kelp, and algae, though they are not opposed to snatching bugs near the surface. They are often spotted picking at rock and bone on the seafloor.
The schooling habits of these species is small and fluid. When food is abundant they can gather in groups of five to six. However, when food becomes scarce, they turn to a more solitary lifestyle and scatter to avoid depleting the area further. They wait to pair up until there is plenty of food and hiding for their young. The juveniles often leave and group together despite their parents and hide amongst the corals.
Blue Dragon Tangs are also prone to fighting. While the adults leave the juveniles mostly to their own devices, the oldest dragons have been spotted grouping up and using their horns to drive sharks away from their young's hiding places. Similarly, mischievous individuals habitually ease their way into others' space to sneak food, often leading to the wronged dragon fighting off the intruder with their horns.
Real Life Inspiration:
Indo-Pacific Blue Tang: "It is found in clear water on exposed outer reef areas or in channels with a moderate or strong current. It primarily utilizes coral reef habitats, but is also known to utilize seagrass beds, mangroves, algal beds, and rocky reefs...They live in pairs or small groups of 8 to 14 individuals. They can also be found near cauliflower corals on the seaweed side of coral reefs. Juveniles can be found in schools using Acropora for shelter."
Powder Blue Tang: "The powder blue tang...is herbivorous, eating mostly benthic algae...It is solitary, territorial and aggressive with other surgeonfish. In cases where food is plentiful, it may feed in shoals, but in cases of scarcity, it may compete individually for food. It may use its surgeon's scalpel as a defensive weapon."
