![]() I was not surprised when Ezcyar approached me to tell me that he and Zishyry had an egg. Judging by how close the two of them were ever since they first joined my clan and how they spent all of their days and nights together, it really was only a matter of time. While the egg was incubating, Zishyry even put all of her artistic projects on hold. She is usually such an aloof and free spirit, so I was surprised to see her so dedicated and caring when the egg arrived. Ezcyar invited me and Iliad to be there when it was about to hatch. It was a small and intimate group, but we still really enjoyed our time together welcoming the new dragon into this world. Zishyry already put a lot of thought into how she wanted to name the hatchling. Once she confirmed its gender, she gave her the name Kiy and everyone present celebrated our newest clan member. Later, Zishyry confided in me that she was originally hoping for a larger clutch, but she ended up happy about having just a single offspring. Since this is her first time raising young, it allowed her and Ezcyar to pour all her time and energy into her – and having another clutch in the future is always an option. Once we got to spend some time with Kiy, she turned out to be different from what I expected, given her parents' personalities. Ezcyar is quiet and composed, and Zishyry is a creative whirlwind; Kiy, I would have described as playful, mischievous, maybe even cruel, at least early on. She liked to mess with other dragons, especially Ezcyar. One of her favorite past time activities was to sneak up on him and bite his tail. Kiy also liked to play with her prey, needlessly chasing it, delighting in its fear, and extending the process as much as possible. I've seen her carry an alive and squeaking Sun Flecked Fieldmouse around in her maw and flaunting it around the lair, only to deliberately drop it and give chase again. I voiced my concern about this behavior to Zishyry, but she was of the opinion to not set any boundaries for the young and let them explore their passions. As Kiy grew older and we got another hatchling to keep her company, in the form of Siak, her cruel tendencies lessened somewhat – at least the worst of it. Having another hatchling around helped to both distract and humble her. Once there was an Auraboa that would happily snatch and eat the little rodents Kiy deliberately let escape, she became more deliberate in her hunting efforts and even made herself really useful to the clan by clearing out the pests going after our food reserves, furs, fabrics, and similar. Even now that Kiy is grown up, she still likes to keep the lair clear off these tiny scavengers, though I still sometimes catch her toying with them for her own amusement; holding a Nightwing Bat's wing with her talons and deliberately snapping her maw shut inches besides them, digging her claws into a Weasel's backside and watching it yelp and squirm as it tries to tear itself free... Kiy definitely still developed somewhat of a nasty habit that I personally don't like to see, even if those creatures can sometimes cause us quite a headache. Bred in Clan ![]() |
