The ground shook. The rock beneath their feet gave a mighty heave, splitting itself open and allowing lava to spew forth.
"Everyone out!" The clan's leader snapped, only to watch as the ceiling of their lair collapsed all at once, before any dragon had a chance to move even an inch. One of the biggest, heaviest sections slammed into the ground directly on top of him, and the last thing he ever heard was the horrid snapping of all of his bones shattering simultaneously.

The hatchling awoke beneath the wings of her beloved father.
