God trusted me with your life
But I'm a fraud
I'm afraid
I'm afraid of the blood running through the trees
And the war that is about to begin

Where she went - I followed, until I could follow her no more, until no one could.
Does she remember?

When she speaks with a voice that belongs to hundreds, a voice that is not hers - when they speak through her - I wonder.....does she hear me?

Does......it matter if she does?

The Icewarden trusted us. He was a fool - the fae.....I can't remember her name....she fell quickly. One word, one whisper, one trace of shade at a time. The devil whispered lies - and she believed them.

I....did not, I don't....I don't think I did.

The fae fell and I followed her.

Maybe I'm the fool.......

The Iceward is punishing me, my wings are freezing, my body...I'm, I'm so cold. The fae - the fae is beyond his reach, but I'm not...

I went back to wind. I took her with me...maybe someone can - maybe some one can help us..

I can't leave her. Someone needs to....someone needs to protect the clan from her. I... can here it now, I can hear the shade calling...

How...how long will I be able to resit it?
Day 64 wrote:
It started small at first, she was.....erratic, excitable - drawn towards...the outside. The world around her beckoned and I...I was drawn to her. She was so bright, so..I was like - like a moth drawn to a flame. I burned like one too. I should have known.

She's changing faster now, her eyes - oh god her eyes - they aren't white anymore. There's darkness - so much darkness, it shifts and pluses in her irises - like worms, like parasites. Icewarden preserve us

She can't see me anymore, she whispers...she whispers all the time and her voice - her voice isn't hers. It is...it is the Shade's, a million voices fighting one another. Sometimes...sometimes she begs, she pleads....and her voice is almost hers. But it's a trick, it's always a trick and the laughter is always worse

Oh gods, what have I done...
Day 60 wrote:
She-she killed a hatchling, she - I don't, I can't... she killed it! She tore out the imperial's throat, she - she, she ate it's heart

Why...why, I don't - I don't understand, gods help me, I don't understand! The egg had been found in an abandoned section of the sunbeam ruins - the shell was...darkened. We - I didn't know it was the shade, I d-didn't know the egg was tainted, I think....I think she did.

I woke up to see her, maw stained red, I watched her consume the child - I watched the shade flow into her, watched it settle into her body like it had always known her.

I took her and ran. Icewarden forgive me, we fled.
Day 57 wrote:
She's started eating meat - I don't know how...and she won't tell me why. She's become evasive. Dodging my questions, changing topics whenever I bring up the shade. Now when she gets the far off listening look - she will not share what is said with me. She says it is between the Icewarden and herself, she seems almost angry with me.

She's twitching strangely now, and sometimes her healing hands don't work like they should. She seems...diminished somehow...Icewarden, I know it's not my place to judge but - I am worried. She seems almost hungry when she looks at hatchlings now, she makes me treat them. Tells me hers is another purpose.
Day 49 wrote:
We found the Shade - or rather, the shade found us. On a plain between the abiding boneyards and and the whispwillow grove....it was a white-rot deer. Or....at least it used to be - the thing was tainted, I could feel it beating against my senses. The evil... I do not care to give that feeling a name - nor do I believe it is possible for me to explain. Its bark skin was shot through with darkness that shifted as we watched, it didn't....it didn't move right.

It attacked us. This....shade touched thing - it had no mind, no sense of preservation. I landed a blow that morally wounded it. Before I could end its suffering - she stayed my hand. "Wait. Do you hear it?" She asked me. "Do you hear it singing?" I heard nothing but the beast's gurgling and told her so. She seemed....transfixed, watching the deer twitch and writhe - watching raptly as the shade started reacting to its hosts death. "The Icewarden says to leave it." And who was I to question her? She was more devout than I after all...

She watched while it died, while it screeched through a torn throat, while it weezed pitifully. Watched the shade finish destroying what it could of the host. She never once looked away, never blinked and the whole time she was listening to something I could not hear.

Icewarden help me.... I am afraid.
Day 40 wrote:
I think something might be wrong with her. The sun hurts her eyes far more than it should, she's taken to covering it with cloth - she says that her eyes have started to deceive her but that I should fear not because the Icewarden will guide her steps and show her the truth of all things. I believe her but....

She did not pray today, nor - when I think about it, I can't remember the last time she's prayed with me. When I asked her she said that she does, that she does not need words for the Icewarden to hear her - that all she does is in his name and that he sees all that she does. It is....strange, not once has he spoken to me, I would have thought that I would hear him again - but I know nothing of these things and it is not my place to question the divine will of our Lord.
Day 31 wrote:
She feels the same! I have never been so happy before - I love her so much and she loves me back! How lucky are we? Icewarden be Praised!
Day 30 wrote:
Everywhere we go we help - we spread the teachings of our lord as we set broken bones and heal plagues. The darkness retreats before us and light shines bright against our armor. She is....radiant, her glow rivals the sun itself, she is....I think....I think I love her. I watch her set a hatchling's wing and I see how gentle her hands are. I watch her free a sprite from an amber drip or save an Amaranth Moth from an ashpine widow's web and I am reminded of her kindness for even the smallest of creatures. Gods...I hope she feels the same!

She prays everyday, blesses every soul she touches - her smile, her smile could light a thousand lairs. Together we drive back the monsters of this land, together we shape a better future for all of us. I am so much stronger at her side than I could ever be alone. The Icewarden guides her steps and her steps guide my own. All that we have gained, every victory and every loss as well - it strengthens our resolve. All that we have the Icewarden has given us - may he be blessed. I never truly knew the meaning of faith until I had her beside me.
Day 10 wrote:
We started in Ice territory, routed a herd of centaurs and rescued the hatchlings they'd taken. We fixed the lair's dwellings and supplied our healing to those that needed it. We spread the teachings of the Icewarden as we tended the clan. Later we sought out the Centaur herd and tended to their injured as well, though they were wary of our intentions. We found a place for the herd further away from any of our kind's encampments.

The fae hovered over an injured foal for a long time, movements jerky - listening to our Lord in her ears. Her eyes were far away...I wonder what she saw. Eventually she set the child's leg - though her talon went to her sword at first. Later, when I asked her, she told me that she could see the future sometimes - glimmers of what could be. She said the foal could grow to be a destroyer of many clans, and she had been of the mind to end the threat before it could happen. And yet - she'd stayed her hand in favor of kindness. She is truly blessed!

The Icewarden has chosen us! Fae and pearlcatcher, I may be wind but I have served the Icewarden for as long as I can remember. The fae is Ice flight though - born and bred, she grew up with the Icewarden by her side and the snow all around her. How lucky she is! I don't know her name yet but I will soon - I'm sure we'll end up friends, we will have to rely on each other after all. We swore our oaths before the Icewarden's alter and his priest blessed us so

We swear to uphold justice and righteousness, to stand with the good things of the world against the encroaching darkness, and to hunt the forces of evil wherever they lurk. All of our years of training and fighting and growing and we are finally ready! Ready to move beyond these walls and spread this light throughout the world of Sornieth. Where shade haunts, where the beastclans attack, where Emperors lurk, wherever ever there is darkness - there too shall we be.

I remember when I first heard the Icewarden whisper to me, knelt beside the alter in daily prayer. The feeling of....exaltation! The chance to serve something much bigger than myself! I told the fae of my first contact with our Lord and she told me that she'd been hearing him her whole life! Since she was a hatchling even! She looked....far away, like she heard someone else when I talked to her. What wondrous things he must whisper to her! I will record my doings here so my Lord may know my heart is true and my soul pure.

Musings:

A pearlcatcher approaches, her movements harrowed and heavy. Her limbs are frozen, ice radiates over her wings, creeps up her neck - only the area around her chest is free of frost. A worn iron helmet crowned with a ring of bones sits atop her head and a tattered ice sash still flutters around her waist. She is slow, each movement seems to cost her.

Her eyes are dazed and sad and faraway, it takes her awhile to spot the fae and hear his words. Though....it seems like she's listening to something else too. Seemab slowly sits, clutching her glowing pearl to her chest and slowly gathers her thoughs. "I...am a paladin.." She rasps, voice shaky and uncertain. She shakes her head to clear it and refocuses. "I was...a paladin...for the Icewarden, I - I lost....I can't remember her..."

Again the pearlcatcher shakes her head and tugs on her ears. "There was a fae - I - I loved her, she's...the shade, the shade took her. She's s-she's gone. Can..can I get her back? Is there....is there a future where...she can, where I - where she is saved? Where I g-get her back?"

----

It comes for us all, the cold, the empty halls of stone and winding wind. Where did they go? The windows are as vacant as eyes; I have no warmth between my talons. I have lost my siren, my clear skies; I wander these rooms crowned with my guilt and dismay. Where are the soldiers, when did the healers break their staffs? The ground underneath my feet has grown thin, and I fear I would come to welcome the plummet.
