Biography
~Varanus, the Wildblood~
None now would disagree that the fate of the Beastclans was an obscenity. The only question is what each dragon does with the knowledge. In the modern age, many have chosen peace, swearing to make amends; some have been diligent and dedicated enough in their efforts to earn trust, even friendship. Others have chosen to remain blinded, to perpetuate the cycle, the blood they shed a testament to their hatred of change.
In the end, dragons are the deities' children. On the one hand, to turn against the wishes of one's deity can be as difficult as tearing out one's own heart. On the other, a deity renders their followers far more powerful; most often, too powerful to be defeated by those without the same support.
Varanus was once prince of a harpy clan, destroyed by dragons. When a breakthrough was made in deity lore, he was the first to volunteer to become his people's protector. All of the Beastclans' secret magics, and a mixed blood-pact of their leaders, were used to empower him to a minor deity's status.
Only dragons have flesh that is suited to apotheosis. Therefore, as part of the ritual, Varanus took the form of a dragon, a form that could channel the divine power. He accepted this as a grim necessity, and the Beastclans honour his sacrifice.
Varanus is the deity of Beasts, representing all that exists outside of divinity and answering the prayers of his people. His symbols are bones, reptiles, soil, and arrows.
