LORE
A typical Fae, Ariene was always doing something. She never said no to helping her clan-mates, and was always happy to do so. She was happiest, however, when learning more about the world outside of the Starfall Isles. Her small roost was filled with any books, maps, and treasures she could get her claws on to further her knowledge. Exceptionally talented with magic from a hatchling, she had made huge strides for her clan and credited all of her work to her love of learning. She is beloved by her clan for her work, they had the title of Mirsna Risthene (Meer-sh-na Rish-then-ee), meaning Master Seeker of Knowledge, created for her. Ariene learned quickly that she could understand Gorshund, The Guardian dragon for her clan, more easily than her clan-mates, and spent so much of her spare time with the Guardian that they became close friends. Gorshund had traveled many places and seen many things in her search for her charge, and she gladly shared her stories while Ariene listened intently and scribbled everything down on scrolls to be added to her library. One evening when Ariene visited Gorshund, she learned that their Guardian was nearing her end. Ariene was distraught and begged Gorshund to let her find a way to elongate her life so that she could stay with them. Gorshund refused and told Ariene she shouldn’t be sad because her life had been long and full of prosperity thanks to Ariene and her clan. Ariene met with the clan elders and explained what the Guardian had told her, then urged them to hold a festival in Gorshund’s honor. The festival was held and Gorshund was happy to have all of her Fae with her on this day, but as the night came she grew more weary and, after a brief thank you speech, she retired to her lair. The next day Ariene went to see her friend, and found her on the brink of death. Gorshund smiled sadly at Ariene and thanked her for everything she had done for her, and for coming to be with her in her final hour. Ariene rested herself beside Gorshund’s head and told her that she loved her and would always remember her. When Gorshund expelled her final breath, Ariene finally wept. She stayed with her friend until she had the courage to use her magic to turn Gorshund’s body into a pile of glittering powder that she placed in a jar and took immediately to her roost.

After Gorshund, died, Ariene was heartbroken. She loved Gorshund very much, and wanted desperately to do something to honor her. After days of thinking and planning, Ariene arranged to meet with her clan elders to present her request to be able to start her own clan in Gorshund’s lair. The day she was to present to the clan elders, Ariene met a Fae she had never seen before coming out of the meeting hall. Amun was a son of the leaders of a Fae clan that made it’s home on a neighboring peak in the Crystalspine Reaches, and was here as the emissary from their clan. The elders of Ariene’s clan had reached out to the neighboring clans when they had learned of Gorhsund’s coming death so that the clans could unite and prepare to keep themselves protected. The moment Amun’s eyes landed on Ariene, he knew that she was the dragonswan he would sacrifice anything to be with. She was the most beautiful and vibrant Fae he had ever seen, and he was stunned by her. Ariene almost dropped her scrolls when she saw the Fae before her. He was handsome, and obviously from a prosperous clan. Moreover, he was looking at her like she was the most precious gem in the world. She smiled and introduced herself, and he did likewise.

Just as Amun was about to offer to open the door for her, the steward of the hall came out to fetch Ariene. Amun, curious to learn more about her, followed them back into the hall but stayed close to the door in the back of the room. Ariene was met with a joyous greeting, so she presented her request just as she had practiced. The elders told her they would need time to discuss her request, and that she would be summoned when the decision had been reached. Ariene saw Amun standing at the back of the room as she turned to leave. He held the door open for her and left with her. He was very interested in her plans and asked if they could meet to discuss it further. Ariene agreed quickly and the two arranged a time the next day to meet when they weren’t busy with other duties. The next few weeks went by in a blur, considering she was waiting for the decision of the elders. Meeting with Amun about her ideas had quickly turned into a part of her daily schedule. Her clan-mates, and especially the elders, had taken notice of them spending so much time together. When they finally arranged a day for her to meet them to receive the decision, Ariene was a mixture of excited and afraid. She wanted to be able to start this new clan, but she didn’t want it to cost her to lose contact with Amun.

When she and Amun were called into the meeting hall, Ariene was surprised to see more of Amun’s clan-mates waiting with the elders. Ariene turned to Amun who was startled by the unexpected guests as well. The elders explained that they had sent for the elders of Amun’s clan when they had learned of Ariene and Amun’s blossoming relationship so that his clan could see it for themselves, and after brief negotiations both clans had agreed that if it was their wish to create this new clan together then it was granted with blessings. Ariene and Amun thanked the elders of both clans and were dismissed to begin their clan. Ariene and Amun went straight to Gorshund’s lair and began work on their roost.

The lair grew quickly and became a bustling hub of excitement. Soon dragons of all species and flights started coming to the lair to live, seeking the knowledge that was offered by Ariene and her books. She was so overjoyed to be able to honor Gorshund by having such a diverse community around her that shared her love of knowledge and learning. The clan came together during the Starfall Celebration of 2016 and decided that they would put in a request to Ariene to name their lair. Ariene was surprised when her whole clan and some of the elders from her birth clan began to prepare the stage for a special announcement. The clan issued her a formal request for the name, Clan Risthene. The news completely stunned her. She accepted and granted the request with teary eyes and a joyful heart. Everyone rejoiced and the Starfall Celebration became merrier than ever.

A month later, during the Riot of Rot, the clan was busy with the tasks they had been set to complete for the different events going on when a messenger came from the Observatory claiming to be sent by the Arcanist himself. Ariene and Amun received him immediately in their meeting chamber. He introduced himself, and presented a scroll bound with an ethereal purple silk strand and sealed with a gem of the same ethereal purple that had smoke which danced and swirled inside it. Amun carefully opened it to reveal a beautiful, glowing script that matched the binding and seal. As he and Ariene read it, they were awestruck at the words forming on the page. The Arcanist was inviting both of them come to work for him at the Observatory. Ariene told the messenger that she would hold a meeting immediately, and inform her clan of the invitation. The word was spread and every member of the clan stopped what they were doing and went to the meeting hall. Ariene and Amun announced the news and read the invitation, unsure of their clan’s reaction. After a brief pause, a cheer rang out across the gathered dragons and the congratulations began. Ariene and Amun were both shocked and pleased by their clan’s acceptance of the Arcanists invitation. The clan then prepared everything for them to be on their journey to the Observatory while Ariene and Amun spoke with the messenger about the details. Another celebration was held the night of their departure, to see them off to their new home. Their birth clans had been sent for and came with gifts and well wishes for their journey and future with the Arcanist in his Observatory.

The clan still thrives, and is growing. They still follow the paths they had under Ariene and Amun’s leadership.

About Me
I'm a dog groomer/salon manager by trade, and I love my husband Jake, Sharpies, Classic Rock, Florida Gators football, magic, dragons, Austin Powers, Monty Python, stationery, writing, reading, video games, nature, hunting, fishing, kayaking, victorian and gothic fashion, random facts, trivia, ancient civilizations, mythology, and so, so much more! You'll rarely catch me without a song on my lips or a joke ready to go. FUN FACT: I was born on Friday the 13th! Some call me crazy, but there's usually method to my madness. (Notice I said usually, I'm ADHD and, therefore, can't be held responsible for the unprompted shifts in my focal points.) The language I most commonly and fluently speak is sarcasm, followed closely by inappropriate comments. My main goal in life is to be as helpful as I can because, let's be honest, the world doesn't need more negativity. The main currency in my life is knowledge, and I plan to die a very wealthy woman.
