Somewhere within the Southern Icefield, a clan of hardy survivors dwells among the landscape of ice and snow which stretches for as far as the eye can see. The only sign that trespassers are encroaching on this secluded land are towering sculptures hewn from the land itself, representing the deity that watches over this barren snowscape. Approaching the sculptures rewards those without the clan's favor with a deep sense of frigid dread paired with the looming sense of unbelonging.

The Frostbound Clan was formed in the wake of a deadly natural disaster known simply as "The Incident", occurring approximately twenty years ago on a relatively uninhabited sector of the Frigid Floes. Beyond a relative knowledge of its timing, little is known about exactly what kind of incident "The Incident" was. Official sources attribute it to a freak windstorm originating in the neighboring Twisting Crescendo, but the scant information regarding it suggests this to be an impossibility.

Most details of the Incident have been lost to time, but what stands out about it is its sheer number of fatalities alongside its mysterious origin. Most casualties in the Southern Icefields are the product of hypothermia or dehydration, but those caused by the Incident were neither. Instead, what happened to the roughly 150 dragons belonging to the former Wickerkind clan established in that sector is still a mystery.

In the current era, the sole remaining Wickerkind now works to rebuild her clan, having taken a Tundra wanderer as her mate. The new clan prefers to be known as the Frostbound, seeing as how much of the Wickerkind's culture was lost after the Incident.

FACTIONS

Frostbound Clan

Like other Ice clans, members of the Frostbound Clan value hardiness. Descended either from the last Wickerkind or from those she and her mate have chosen to bring into their clan, the Frostbound find strength and solidarity in diversity. Knowing they no longer have a past to look back on and learn from, it is now up to them to shape a new history one day at a time. Outside clans have taken interest in the newly formed clan and its relative openness to outsiders, seizing the opportunity to utilize the resources and environment of the Southern Icefields for their benefit.

Plasmaworker Association

The Plasmaworker Association is a peculiar project, one that may not even be linked to the Stormcatcher himself. In a break from the Lightning flight's tradition of technological secrecy, the industrious dragons responsible for the P.A. have made contact with the ice dragons of the Frostbound Clan and established territory in the Southern Icefields. Their ambitious goals seem to necessitate access to ice magic, though it remains unclear what they intend to use such energy for.

Deathbinder Sect

Originally based in the Tangled Wood, this shadow clan is led by a renegade pair of Gaolers and consists of their various acolytes, who assist them as they work to analyze the Shade and devise new methods of containing shards of this ancient eldritch entity. Their efforts have expanded and prompted a return to the Southern Icefields, in the hope of locating other Seekers and performing more research on the Shade. Given the hostility of ice clans to outsiders, it was necessary for them to strike a deal with the Frostbound Clan: securing the borders of the now-shared territory in exchange for lair space.
