Rhavencroft's Clan

A shadow darker than the trees of the tangled wood weaves between branches. The leaves are still, but something moves. You can feel it breathing.

Scales flicker from the corners of your eyes for just a moment. Jagged, iridescent flashes of seashell skin, then it is gone. The imprint of green eyes burns into the back of your eyelids. They are bigger than you. Bigger than mountains and somehow...familiar. You have seen the same glimmer in the eyes of the young soldier sent to exaltation.

Your lantern catches on glitters in the trees. Eyes; smaller and many, placed in all the wrong places like spiders--all holding the sheen of the Exalted. Their whisper slips into your ear. Melodic and stern, rasped and soft and quiet all at once.

"The Chariot sees you. You are not welcome here."

Gone. And suddenly, you are alone with the moonlight and the heavy feeling of treetop shadows closing in.
