Clan Chiaroscuro is located in an area notorious for confusing travelers, even those with years of experience under their belts. The dance of shadows and light, born from where the Shadowbinder’s territory meets the Lightweaver’s, tricks their eyes and their senses and causes them to wander off the known trails.

Often, this blind stumbling leads them to a Tundra seemingly made of stars and light who seems completely at home even in such a confusing landscape. Perhaps she is truly at home here, made of the same matter and magic that silently duel for dominance along the borders.

With kind words (and the occasional offer of tea, maybe some sweets as well), Antumbra takes in those who find themselves lost after making sure they have nothing but innocent, harmless intentions. It is the Skydancer in the wolf cape who determines this and then signals to Antumbra whether that’s someone who should be taken in or not. Clan Chiaroscuro has welcomed hatchlings, adults, dragons on exalting journeys or simply travelling for less divine purposes, all of them taken in and given the option of staying as long as they’d like. Some choose to call the clan home, others resume their journeys after being scorted safely out of the area to avoid getting lost again.

Should a traveler show themself to be hostile or have harmful intentions, however, they get treated a bit differently: Antumbra (and sometimes Ferris) will invite them to a game. “Just a little match, and we’ll send you on your way. Here in the Shadow Flight we love games, you see!”

The traveler will inevitably lose.

And after they lose, their body and soul gets sealed away into a glass jar, glowing in the color of their native Flight. (Courtesy of the Clan’s mage, of course.) They also make for beautiful, if slightly morbid decoration.

That isn’t all there is to the Chiaroscuro dragons, however. Maybe it’s due to the liminal nature of the forest, but every permanent resident is able to shapeshift into one specific form that looks exactly like a familiar. For most of the dragons, their familiar forms fall on the more animal range, but some have gotten Beastclan forms.


Be careful with the dark and be careful with the light.

Both can blind you.
