Long ago, a young hatchling watched as her parents were taken from her, victims to an incident unforeseen and unavoidable. Alone, the hatchling struggled to survive, searching for both a new home and a purpose. As she grew, the echoes of her pain only strengthened her resolve – when dealt a cruel hand of fate, one must take matters into their own hands, and it was as an adult that she decided that she would create a sanctuary of her own where no tragedy would once again come to pass.

The Veil is a settlement hidden deep within Driftwood Drag, its path closed most of the year by the clan’s leader in order to keep the lair’s inhabitants safe. It is a clan consisting of orphans, the unwanted, and those who have also been dealt unkind cards in life – it is a sanctuary for those in need of a family and a home; a community built upon trust and respect. None may enter and none may leave – a sentiment that, in more recent times, has changed to include an exception: the Trickmurk Circus, a time of celebration for the Shadow Flight. The Matriarch, Ranni – at the insistence of both her mate, Hallow, and the children within the Veil – opens the path only during this week, allowing members of the clan to leave and outsiders to enter. Outsiders are encouraged to bring offerings in the form of food or other various materials to show that they mean no harm, and some – repeat visitors – are even given permission to live amongst the clan if they so desire. Outsiders live within The Shroud.
