The palace of heaven.

In the deeps of the tangling, treacherous forests, there is a fortress of gray stone, untouched by the rot like a beacon of light. If only they would know, every single one of them, coming to and feeling safe in the way the danger receded to allow for their towns to rise, that it doesn't ward off evil, but that it is born from it's cursed foundations.

If only those scholars knew that the bast library was but the belly of the beast, and that it's heart pulsed beneath it all, stronger each passing day as it poisons the mind of it's queen, as her advisors tell her of war and treachery, of arcane magic and long lost rituals. The more her power and ambition grows, the more the sickness spreads, rising, poisoning the very essence of the world around it, a place that had been forgotten, dormant, now awake and seeking the glory it once held.
