If you are undeterred by the scorching heat of the desert sun, and are cunning enough to pass the hanging plates of copper that are designed to dazzle and blind intruders as they chime across the canyon, you will find yourself in an unusual sanctuary. Spiny cacti, red sand, and steel cables as thick as a dragon's arm crisscross this land, painting an inhospitable picture of dangerous thorns and deadly electricity. Travel a little farther, and you'll find the canyon walls are not as solid as they appear; instead, they are a honeycomb of tunnels and caves, dug by some long-dead ancient creature, and as you walk in the shade at the bottom of the cliffs you may find that curious eyes watch from within the hollows above.

Within the caves, the cables and wires seen outside lead to advanced control systems and interfaces for irrigation, temperature regulation and power supplies. Each dragon has their own preferred system, style of construction and method of interfacing with their technology; the only constant is that the metal and mechanics are not confined to the cavern walls.

The dragons who live here pride themselves on their methods of biological and mechanical augmentation, supplementing their own physical abilities with advanced robotic elements. A pair of eyes that can see across half the desert; wings to replace a pair that never functioned correctly; coils of steel beneath the skin to allow the augmented to run faster, fly higher, go farther than ever before.

(And if the dragons who go too far become strange, corrupted, turn against their friends and family... well. The oldest caves and tunnels provide a place to send them if they cannot be saved, and have certainly played host to darker things in the past.)
