• A Full History of Clan Andromeda •

Once, long ago, there was a dragon called Alastair. Cast out of his clan, he wandered, alongside two companions: a beautiful female called Octavia, a dancer, and his dear friend Osiris, the priest. After years of fruitless travel, they found a glade, enshrouded in darkness, dusted with dull blue light emanating from bioluminescent plant life, nestled against mountains topped by cliffs that overlooked a beautiful crystal sea. Alastair and his companions fell in love with the territory, and thus claimed it as their own.

Alastair and Octavia grew closer as their Clan, dubbed Clan Andromeda, flourished. New dragons, intrigued by the glade and its mysterious inhabitants, joined their small clan in a heartbeat, looking for new lives of leisure and religious peace, as Osiris avidly infused Clan life with the ways of his gods. As the Clan became successful, Alastair took Octavia as his mate, and soon sired a clutch to her. But when she laid the eggs, they were all soft, and rotted away in their nest. The two were devastated, and Alastair, trusting Osiris, shared his grief with his friend. Osiris, in a state of great jealousy of his friend, deceived Alastair, telling him that perhaps Octavia was impure, barren, cursed by the gods, and that if she was, she must be sacrificed in order to preserve the health of the Clan. Alastair, sickened by his sadness and looking for someone to blame for the death of his unborn heirs, had his lovely mate bled out on the altar, his love for her turned cold. Though the rest of the clan saw this as a tragedy, they, too, were deceived, fooled by Osiris's quick tongue, and wholeheartedly believed that Alastair's decision was correct.

Alastair then took a new mate, a beautiful mage, new to the clan, called Amadea. It wasn't long before, once again, Alastair sired a clutch with his mate, however, this one was perfectly healthy, and the Baron and his Baroness rejoiced. But Osiris, once more filled with burning jealousy of his superior friend, decided to take action. He asked Alastair for permission to cleanse his unborn children, bless them, to make sure all would be well. Alastair, trusting his friend, handed over his eggs without a second thought. Osiris crushed Alastair's clutch, and returned to his friend nothing but destroyed shells. He told the Baron that the eggs had been brittle and hollow, and that, in his transporting them to the altar, they broke on impact with each other, and he pleaded for redemption. Alastair told his friend that it hadn't been his fault, and that his new wife must be cursed as well. Osiris then suggested that Alastair himself was the cursed one. Alastair considered this, and then ordered Amadea to rip out his throat at the altar for all the clan to see, in order to repent for killing the innocent Octavia and for unwittingly murdering his own children. His wife obliged, unsure what else to do, and thus Amadea took the throne.

It wasn't a surprise when Amadea, after moons of grief for her husband and her children, took Osiris to be her Baron. Osiris, having finally usurped his friend and taken his beautiful mate, was finally satisfied, and upon his mateship to the Baroness, sired a single egg to her. Amadea and Osiris cared for their egg carefully, and it was blessed at the altar and by magic alike, and when it finally hatched, the clan erupted into celebration. The hatchling, a beautiful female which her parents called Nephthys, became the joy of all the Clan. They sang and danced and feasted for her, and all was very well.

Amadea, however, fell ill, and died a few years after her daughter's birth. Osiris, left to raise his child and rule his clan alone, never took another mate.

Nephthys was raised to be Osiris's heir, taught to be the Baroness her mother was, and when she came of age, all the males of the clan flocked to earn her heart. However, none could. It was only after a quiet traveler by the name of Njord arrived that Nephthys took her Baron. Osiris died of old age the day Njord was welcomed to the clan, and Nephthys, though grieving, knew that her father's last wish was to see her married. She was mated to Njord the very next day, believing their attraction would grow into love. She was right.

Nephthys and Njord ruled the clan well. Trade was good, hunting was good, and all the clan was happy. However, Nephthys and her mate held a secret: Nephthys was barren. When she did bear children, they were weak and died within hours. In years, they only managed one surviving son, who was later found treasonous and executed. The sadness twisted Njord, and before long, Njord became a tyrant. He gave Nephthys less of a say in clan affairs, hid away food and riches for himself as the rest of the clan starved and became impoverished. He even changed the clan name, to Clan Berserker. A great time of solemnity fell upon the clan, and many dragons died.

Eventually, Nephthys decided that her deceitful husband was no longer fit to lead the clan, and that she would not be contained or suppressed any more. In the night, the Baroness attacked her husband, and though she slew him in the end and ended his reign of terror, she too sustained grave injuries. The clan feared she'd die, and upon her request, lay her on the altar built by her father to die.

But as the clan gathered to hear her last breath, the Baroness's blood turned to blinding light, and as the clan blinked through the brightness, they could have sworn the gods descended from the heavens to stitch her wounds themselves. When the light subsided and the starving, dying clan turned their eyes back upon the corpse of their Baroness, they were amazed to find it alight with molten lava, her scales having turned to magma and ashen rock. Awed by the sight, the bowed down her as she rose once more, no longer as a simple Baroness, but now a deity herself. They cried for forgiveness and mercy from the newborn Fire Mother, and she gladly opened her wings to them. She reclaimed her clan, restoring its original name, Clan Andromeda, and giving away all the riches and goods her late husband from her old life had wrongfully denied the clan. They flourished once more, and all was very, very well, as it was intended to be from the start. The ages of tyranny that plagued the clan were finally over, and evil in the high ranks was cleansed. A new age of prosperity was taking root among the warriors, mages, dancers, apprentices, and simple ranked of Clan Andromeda, and all are prepared for it to blossom.
