Somewhere in the Viridian Labyrinth, an oddly-matched pair of Mirror dragons befriended a brightly shining, contradictory Shadow dragon. Zeiker, mate to Elanor, looked upon the children they brought into the world and their undesirable coloring. He was dismayed, at first, and ashamed as they would never find homes in other clans. Elanor, kind and clever, looked to their friend, Theodore, and brought to her mate a solution to his sorrows.
"My love, my dear green-wing." She said to him. "We need not send our children away to other clans. They may leave, in service to our great Gladekeeper, but why should we send them away? Why can they not stay? Why can any child, undesired by their families and clans, not come to ours instead? The ugly, misshapen, ridiculed, and cast-out. Let them come here, join us. They too are as afraid as our clutch, their families hateful of their look. We have love to spare, can we not stay them here?"
"Look to Theodore, our dear friend and protector. White, shining and beautiful to us, hated by Shadowbinder's lot. Cast away and now ours, friend and family and clan."
Zeiker looked upon his children, his friend, and his mate. He saw her wisdom and then looked upon their small spaces, thoughts growing together. "Elanor, my dear, my beloved brown-wing. Your words are kind and true. Our clan will grow, we will find the spaces for sleep and play and ascension, so that all who are cast out and hated-all who are discarded by family and clan-may find comfort and family, love and clan here instead."
Let us take your ugly, your misshapen, your unfortunately made, your hated, your cast-offs, and your undesired. They will be loved, they will have a family and a clan, or they will be elevated to grow into the Gladekeeper's service.
