We were all lost, once. We may still have yet to find our way in this mystical world of magnificent creatures. But we have found each other.

Carved out in the foot of a cliffside is the little cavern we call home. The forest all around us is thick and unforgiving, keeping our little clearing a well kept secret. Few find their ways to us; fewer still who mean to. By the will of our matriarch, the kind and motherly Spinel, all lost and lonesome who find their way to our home need not search for belonging any longer.

It's not always a practical way to be, really. There come certain issues with such universal welcome; not all are as willing to show the good in themselves that Spinel insists that all possess. But so far we've been pretty lucky. Only robbed a couple times, and neither got far before Farlao caught up with them.

We were all saved from something by Spinel. Most of our numbers were unwanted hatchlings who found their ways to us in one way or another. A couple had faced an exalted destiny that they were not prepared to meet and fled into the night, finding their ways here. We've all got our stories to tell.

That is, except for Spinel.

We know well her kindness, and her almost insatiable desire to nurture and accept and forgive. At times this fills us with feelings of unconditional acceptance, which I'm sure is what she wishes. But now and again, it worries us. Why is this so? What could have happened in her own long life, that could make her so almost afraid to turn anybody away? What events could have so thoroughly robbed her of her ability to deny another sanctuary? And how... How can you know someone so very much, and yet, so little? In time, we can only pray that she will one day open herself to us as completely as she has opened her heart.
