Clan Info

The diminutive Fae dragon inhabits the sheer cliff faces of the Ramos mountains, where they spin huge hive-like colonies which are made from regurgitated plant material and the Fae's own saliva, which hardens into a concrete-like substance upon contact with oxygen.

Weighing around one pound and a length of just 16 inches, the Fae is one of the smallest dragon species.

They are highly social and exhibit matriarchal bee-like behavior with one dominant female which is often the mother of the rest of the colony and the only female which is permitted to breed.

Males do not stay with the colony, and will only approach a female colony during the spring breeding season. Young males are forced out as soon as they can fly, after which they form bachelor groups until they reach maturity at about a year old.

Fae are poor flyers and rely heavily on thermal winds if they wish to fly long distances.

Fights between males to gain breeding rights can be vicious and often deadly.

Upon the death of a dominant female within a colony, the oldest of the female offspring will fight among themselves until a new dominant female is determined.

Fae colonies can last for decades, the oldest recorded has contained the same bloodline for 200 years. Hives, however, only last a few years. Eventually, hives get too heavy and fall from the cliffside, in which, they need to be rebuilt.

Eggs are laid only by the dominant female and the care of the eggs and hatchlings falls to the older siblings. It takes three months for Fae eggs to hatch. Hatchlings will start learning to fly at just a few weeks old.

Fae primarily feed on insects, but will supplement their diet with fruit and when times are hard, they have been observed feeding on carrion and small mammals.

The average lifespan of a Fae dragon is 12-15 years.
